Publisher's Summary

Rafael De La Cruz has spent centuries hunting vampires with his brothers. With each passing year, his capacity to feel emotions has grown weaker and weaker, until finally there's barely a memory of one left - only sheer willpower keeps him from turning into the very abomination he hunts. But it'll take more than will to keep him away from the woman who is meant to be his and his alone.

For five years, rancher Colby Jansen has been the sole protector of her younger half-siblings, and with fierce determination and work she has kept her family together and the ranch operational. Now, the De La Cruz brothers are threatening that stability. They claim that her siblings belong with their father's family, not with her. Colby vows to fight them - especially the cold and arrogant Rafael De La Cruz. But Rafael is after more than her family; he wants Colby, and will not let anything stand between them. After ages of loneliness, the raw desire to possess her overwhelms his very soul, driving him to claim her as his lifemate.

loved this book

I must say this was a wonderful surprise. I loved the suspense in this book I couldn't put it down I found myself at my desk at work not being able to stop this book from playing while working it made my day go very fast indeed, If you enjoy fantasy and romance with a twist you will enjoy this book, the twist of vampires was fun and it kept this book very interesting although it was nice to have a good love story, I would not recommend this book if you don't like vampire books because this is one yet the love story is really good I think I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Love this series, had a hard time with this book

I love this series, but had a hard time with this book. Personally he was to alpha for my taste in the sense that he didn't give her many options and took her choice away from her.

Hero is a jerk. hard to enjoy the romance w/ him

He was way too controlling, dishonesty and inconsiderate and her inability to resist him made me want to strangle her. Interesting developments in the big picture/ ongoing story so I'm glad I didn't give up like I wanted to do numerous times

Distracting narration

This is my first time reading a novel involving Carpathians. I probably would have enjoyed the story much more if it had been read by a different narrator. Mr Ferrones's tendency to over-emote & nearly run out of breath with each sentence was very distracting.
The story itself kept me listening. I nearly gave up because of the narration but decided to keep on because I did want to know more about Carpathians as well as what happens to Colby & her sibs.

Richard Ferrone is the least able voice actor ever

Phile Gigante would have done a far better job of acting, character changes, and pronouncing Spanish or Eastern European words.
Damn shame too, it's a good story and essential to following new characters and inner- locking future stories in the Dark Series sagas.

Incredible

I consider myself an expert when it comes to these types of books, but I have found something new and enticing. I devour books....4-6 books per week. I was going weary with reading the same thing over and over. This series sounds incredible and I can hardly wait to gett through them.
The narrator is great. I often perfer female readers because most books give the female perspective, but this book does a great job of giving both perspectives and I find that I like knowing what the hero is going through.
This book is deeply exotic, but not always due to the sex scenes. It is full of adventure, excitement, romance and fierce domination. If you like that sort of thing....smile....you will love this book.

Creepy, just not in a good way.

The narrator of this title made listening to this book truly unbearable for me. I strongly suggust listening to the sample before buying. I've enjoyed many Feehan books in the past, but this rendition was awful.

I really struggled with this one.

I have enjoyed Fehaans books immensely in the pass. But this books storyline was I'll thought out. The female linemates are becoming younger and younger, what's up with that. This was borderline rape. why? Carpathian men and bossy and domineering but forcing sex when the woman child keeps saying no is horrible. Then the woman child resists the parking for 90% of the book. A bunch of whining and self doubt. Colby character does not fit in with her experience. She is also never allowed to use her gift in this book to defend herself. only once to throw a fit at her lifemate.
I struggled to put it mildly. I see another one of the series coming up where the lifemate is 19.. Fehaan, dont you think that for the personalities of the Carpathian men that they will be better suited with women a bit more mature.
To top it of the narrator sucked.

The Narrator Mr. ferrone I don’t know

At first I dreaded listening to this book because of the narrators voice and how long the book is but I believe that he did a good job in this book. I still don’t think he does a good woman’s voice but it was well enough for this book because there a graph tough rancher women and I still don’t think he has the sensuality for the sex scenes in his voice , it still feels like if I listen to the sex scenes when he narrates it’s like my grandpa talking to me about erections,so I fast forward it though all the sex scenes when he narrates any of these books. The book was great and I enjoyed it.

Wish there was a warning...

So I actually like most of the books in this series... but I really wish there had been a warning. Ususlly the stories aremore tastful. But this story was quite bad with the graphic rape scene that where orignally called rape by Female lead but then not called rape a few pages later. It was and is rsoeand eas quite disturbing.... Colby was really bulldozed in this story. I could really get into the story because I keep switching from feeling uncomfortable, hortified, and feeling pity for her... I'm really disappointed it came off as making rape seem like not a big desl as long as the victim eventually accepts and marries(dates/mates) the rapest.

Many have a probem with the narrator. I can understand why it is off putting but it's not as bad as people make it out to be.

I have read dozens of boons by this author but this might be the first that I may not finish... again it's just distasteful. Also I hsveno trama but I czn image soneone who survived being brutalized and reading this book just to be traumatized again...disappointed.
