Publisher's Summary

Manolito De La Cruz knew he was dangerously close to turning into a vampire. The last thing he expected after being called back to his Carpathian homeland by Prince Mikhail was to catch the scent of his destined lifemate in MaryAnn Delaney.

MaryAnn is human, but she knows all too well the overwhelmingly aggressive instincts of Carpathian males. And they're not exactly the kind of men she'd prefer to be bound to for life. A dedicated counselor for battered women, MaryAnn has a fulfilling life with no room for someone like Manolito, born and bred in the Carpathian Mountains, a law unto himself.

But when MaryAnn agrees to go to South America to offer guidance to a brutalized young woman, she has no idea of the trap that awaits her in the sweltering thick of the jungle. She has been lured there by Manolito himself, who has seductive plans for the unaware, irresistibly human female.

Once there, she will be his. Once his, she never will be released. He is her lover, her predator, her lifemate. She is his dark possession.

best of all the "dark" series.

I found this the best of all the series about the carpathians. I found the first 3 or 4 so similar I questioned whether to buy anymore. They were all basically the hunky carpathian is close to turning into a vampire and he finds his lifemate in the nick of time and then has to convince her that he is the best thing that ever happened to her with a fairly weak story weaving the (very well written)sex scenes together. Dark Possession had a great story line with some twists and turns that made the love story of the two main characters believable and interesting. I am now listening to Dark Curse and am finding this one has a good story line as well. Maybe they will only get better from now on.

Hated MaryAnn's voice

Any additional comments?

I am having a hard time finishing the book in audio format because of Jane Brown's narration. MaryAnn is a women of color and Jane Brown gave her the voice of Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. Though I know that using a voice that reinvents the description of the character was very much intentional, I will say this anyway: The powers that be need to consider the description of the character when hiring a narrator. Stay true to what the author envisioned.

Dark Possession

This was fast paced and filled with action, danger, humor, romance and excitement. I loved Maryann and Manolito characters. Christine Feehan at her best. I rate this highly along with Dark Demon. I found myself laughing out loud during various scenes in the book. The narrators were great with Jane and Phil reading Manolito and Maryann. This made it more enjoyable and more character driven.

Holy Smoke!

This is by far one of the best in the series. The love scenes are sizzling. I liked the two different readers, they played well off each other. My one minor problem is the mans accent sounded nothing like I imagined it should. He had a posh accent more like he was from England than the Carpathian Mountains ( the "Old world" accent we hear referred to in these books) and what I think would be his prevalent accent, South American, I mean, he has only spent how may centuries in Brazil? Other than that it was great.

By far best audio book ever

I have been following the series in audio after reading it a couple years ago. This one is by far the best audio version I have listened to date! Great having two narrators. Perfect!

Angry

This book mocks abuse against women. It takes a counselor and places her in the role of the abused and then promotes emotion and power abuse against her as if it is okay within a relationship.

Ok but the worst of the dark novels.

I didn't like the narration at all. Usually these two narrators have great chemistry but it sounded like the Muppets were reading smug novels. I love the sensuality of the dark books but i actually rolled my eyes and said "oh brother!" whenever Phil said cock with that ridiculous voice. The voices and accents did not match my perception of 2 majestic supernatural beings. MaryAnn was presented as carrie bradshaw meets mary tyler moore when she should have been jacklyn smith from charlies angels. I don't know what Phil was doing with manalito's character. He sounded like Kermit the frog doing Shakespeare. Yuck. But you gotta read this installment to learn more about the series plot so maybe skip listening to this one and read a hard copy.

not so much

I've heard almost all of the Dark series, and I agree with the above comments. I did enjoy having the two narrators, but thought the posh accent odd, and didn't understand why the 'echo' was used in the telepathic conversations.
I did not like the dialogue, or lack of. So much time is spent with internal dialogue, descriptions of the rain forest, maryann's fashioin choices. I feel that most of the female leads show strength, but maryann's lack of insight is irritating.
For a saucy romance, she's good, but i would suggest, reading the series in order. I realize she has to refer to the other characters for ease of story, but really, a lot is wasted on the catching up for people not in the know

A series at it's end?

The was by far the worst of the 'Dark' Series. I found myself annoyed thoughout this book, something which I have not experienced in any on Feehan's books yet. The plot was trite, the narrators grated, and I found myself not caring about any of the charactors. I just wanted the book to end. I don't know if this book is a fluke, or if Feehan has reached the point where she needs to end the series, for her character's sakes, if for no other reason.

If this is your first experience with Christine Feehan's, don't judge her by this one. Her other 'Dark' books are better as are the 'Drake Sisters' and 'Game' series.

Good Story

This story is very interesting and you will not expect the surprise which is in there. It has a lot of action and its a good idea to listen a couple of times to really see the scene and understand all that is going on which is a lot!!! There are some funny moments in the story and the dialogue is written well.

Brilliant introduction to the next set of supernatural beings.
The werewolves/lycan's but Christine Feehan made sure it was a surprise.
Well done again
