Malcolm Khalaji is a grizzled homicide detective for Baltimore Police Department. He’s been around the block and gets called in for the tough cases, so he’s little surprised to be partnered up with the new higher ranking Seong-Jae Yoon. It’s a bloody case where young gay men are being killed and dismembered and they all seem to be past loves of a particular university student. Is it a case of revenge, jealousy, or something even more sinister?

I enjoyed this police procedural a lot. While Khalaji and Seong-Jae have a moment of tenderness, this is largely focused on the case, rather than the very slow-burn relationship that may heat up in future episodes. The writing is lush and beautiful, a stark contrast to the visceral, grisly murders, and well worth enjoying! I liked both leads and the muted alpha-dog tussle between them so I’ll definitely check out further episodes in this incredibly long series. 🎧 Voice actor Curt Bonnem does a fantastic job of the characters, their accents, and broody atmosphere on the audio.

So glad I picked this one up. it's not my usual romance choice! This book is very dark, uncomfortably so, with suspense keeping you on the edge of your seat. Loved the two main characters, so opposite, yet complimentary. The narrator was fabulous, I'll be checking out more from him. Slow, slow, frustratingly slow burn but keeps you wanting more. A couple of logistical issues, but easy to overlook as the story sped along. Loved the writing style and have already downloaded the next "episode". Another sleepless night awaits me. Recommended for lovers of dark, police procedural, serial killer, hint of romance MM books.
