About this listen

An eerie ritualistic murder sends Malcolm and Seong-Jae down a bizarre path of the occult to find a killer—but when it comes to witchcraft, the suspect's not the only one casting a spell. With Seong-Jae haunting his dreams, Malcolm is practically bewitched, his trust in Seong-Jae growing deeper and deeper as both men learn to rely on each other.

But when the murder triggers memories from both Seong-Jae's and Malcolm's shadowed pasts, will the secrets they share bring them closer . . . or drive them further apart?

After many sleepless nights, I've reached the end of the available audible books in this series and must now wait for the next one to be recorded. This "episode" revealed more back stories and added new character storylines. The main characters are finally opening up to each other, which is a relief, I don't think I could have gone on with more tension and miscommunication. The plot continues to intrigue, helped by the beautiful writing style of Cole McCade. Hats off to Curt Bonnem, who brings it all to life. I'm looking forward to the next episode but, for now I'm gonna catch up on some sleep.

Still loving it!!!

A gay man is tied up and eviscerated in a ritualistic killing. The case has far-reaching implications and it’s a disturbing echo of Malcolm and Seong-Jae’s first case together and equally unsettling. Meanwhile, Malcolm and Seong-Jae’s professional partnership hits a snag when Malcom starts sleeping with his ex-wife again. Seong-Jae pretends to be aloof but is deeply hurt. Might this be the catalyst for the guys to finally clear the air about their feelings for each other?

I’ve grown quite used to this serialised set of novels. Each novel contains a discrete case contained within the book but many of the other story lines stretch across multiple books and there are some long subterranean plots lurking beneath all the others that are slowly becoming clearer. I like Malcolm and Seong-Jae and the deep affection they are slowly building for each other—one day that might even act on it! 🎧 Voice actor Curt Bonnem continues to impress, he’s a great audio narrator!

Ritualistic killing & murky romance—so intriguing!
