Story
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Publisher's Summary
Featuring Inspector Dreyfus - one of Alastair Reynolds' most popular characters - this is a fast-paced SF crime story, combining a futuristic setting with a gripping tale of technology, revolution and revenge.
One citizen died a fortnight ago. Two a week ago. Four died yesterday...and unless the cause can be found - and stopped - within the next four months, everyone will be dead. For the Prefects, the hunt for a silent, hidden killer is on....
Alastair Reynolds has returned to the world of The Prefect for this stand-alone SF mystery in which no-one is safe. The technological implants which connect every citizen to each other have become murder weapons, and no-one knows who or what the killer is - or who the next targets will be. But their reach is spreading, and time is not on the Prefects' side.
Read by John Lee.

Enjoyable but limited
I always enjoy Reynolds' books, and the Prefect Glitter Band 'Prequels ' have been an interesting perspective on the Golden Age of Yellowstone. However... I find the narrator's voice and accent strange and distracting!!!

Great Follow-up from the Prefect
This is the second book in the series following The Prefect. Set in the Revelation Space universe, it is a murder mystery, where Prefect Dreyfus has to stop the mass killing of citizens across the Glitter Band. Extremely well written and performed.

Good stuff, a little more ponderous than usual
I love all the author's books.
This one wasnt the best. It had great ideas but suffered more than usual from dull characters and side stories with not much happening in them. It still gave me enough reason to keep going with the series. I feel like the glitterband is a potentially rich location for wacky storytelling but we aren't really getting enough from this book.
Jon Lee was outstanding as always. Just an epic dystopian voice. It is a little detracting when character accents change between books, but perhaps this is hard to avoid.
