About this listen

Nominee, Audie Awards - Audiobook of the Year, 2018

We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news.

The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits.

When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved. The UN Expeditionary Force hitched a ride on Kristang ships to fight the Ruhar, wherever our new allies thought we could be useful. So, I went from fighting with the US Army in Nigeria, to fighting in space. It was lies, all of it. We shouldn't even be fighting the Ruhar, they aren't our enemy. Our allies are.

I'd better start at the beginning.

This was great. R.C Bray does another great performance and the story is really interesting. it's somewhat believable as far as sci fi goes.

fun and funny, with some trek references

Solid story, great main character insightfully crafted. BRILLIANTLY read. LOVED the Ai-hole.
Had me gagging for a cheeseburger. So I had one in honour of not being stuck in space away from our awesome planet. Thank you Craig and RC!

Great story backed by a fantastic performance. Will look for more from RC Bray. Enjoyed the setting and a surprisingly sense of humour in the second half of the story.

What did you like most about Columbus Day?

Starting out I was having a little trouble getting into it... but once I got hooked, I loved it.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the relationship with Skippy - I don't want to ruin the surprise, but Skippy is what sets this series apart.

What about R.C. Bray’s performance did you like?

Good range. There is a clear distinction between characters almost all of the time... which given the book is no small task. The delivery is well acted too.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

too long to do it in one go... but as I say, once hooked I was listening every chance I had - almost finished book three now and that is still the case.

Any additional comments?

All good.

A lot of fun

Saw this series trending on audible. As a fan of scifi I thought it would be a good opportunity to check it out. The story has a very refreshing twist on the space / intergalactic warfare. As humans we're used to being the predator. We're top of the food chain. But in a vast universe that's probably not going to be the case. This book explores this theme.

Enjoyed the narrative and style of this book
