When will it end

The longer this series goes the worse it gets. I am am done. It is like reading a Jack Reacher book, great at first then the same story pumped out every six months till the end of time

Awesome as ever.

If your ever going to listen to an audio book or a saga of audio books, the merry band of pirates will not disappoint. Once again Craig Alanson has created a master piece of literature which is then read into the Universe by R C Bray with simply perfect character embodiment so anyone who listens, can’t help but get carried off into a truly fantastical universe.

Top shelf audiobook.

This series continually knocks it out of the park! Alansons' writing and Brays' delivery are a perfect match. I'm eagerly awaiting the next one.

Very interesting early books but not any more

Despite of the amazing job of R.C. Bray, last two books, especially this book don't have the same excitement and joy, that I felt listening to early books in this book series. I guess the story and events move so fast that even my imagination doesn't believe it and to my science fiction taste it feels too far fetched. Thanks Craig Alanson for your work, especially first first 6 7 books.

Took a while but still fun

Took a while for anything to happen but eventually delivered the goods. This is a light hearted read as long as you can stomach the over Americanism. It’s so weird how these American sci fi authors celebrate the standard American diet (think Cheeseburgers etc) even though it’s the standard American diet is literally killing their people through epidemic obesity, heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

TTA

I trust the awesomeness of Craig Alanson and his fantastic series. This is a great continuation of Critical Mass building the plot to a seemingly never ending climax. You’ve got to love Skippy and his various shenanigans of which there are many in this book. It starts of a bit slow but I guess Craig needed a bit of time to work with and feel comfortable in the new story since the monkeys attained massive weapons. I can’t wait for his next thrilling book.

Disappointing

This book was disappointing but RC Bray was great. The story is disappointing. I feel that the last few books have a trend. One book is great then the next book is a setup for the next book. The setup book is disappointing. I thought previous book Critical Mass was a great book then this book is just a setup for the next book. It was a waist of time to pre-order this book. The author should not waist a whole book just to setup the next book.

1/2 of the book can be thrown out

A good 1/2 of the book is boring with filler material. Had an extended shore leave/romance plot that was just boring and could have been compressed. The whole plot can be summed up with the last few chapters, and the major plot was dragged out over a few chapters to the point where it just was a deus ex machina dragged out for too long. Nothing in the beginning was a foreshadowing nor did it contribute to the main plot.

Can't get enough of this series!

This is by far the best audio book series on Audible. Every book is fantastic. Skippy and the entire Merry Band of Pirates are some of my most favorite characters in all of literature! I hope the series never ends.

meh

Well performed.
The story is very compartmentalized over all. If you listen to the first 23 chapters, it's a relationship book. If you skip to chapter 24, the book is what you'd expect from the series, and the two halves don't meet up.
The expected wit is there, and I actually laughed out loud at a couple jokes, that was enjoyable. Like the last book, I really get a sense that the story has grown stale for the author, or he has serious insurmountable distractions. Shame really.

What a downgrade

I’ve been an ardent fan of this series since the first book, but this...was disappointing to say the least. I understand you want to further develop your characters, but not at the cost of it being a sci-fi book. 75% of the book is just MEH

Feels like Columbus day again!

Already from the start it had different vibe then last couple of books, that's obviously great because for some time already Expeditionary force series is repetitive, boring and unimaginative. This feels like beginning again, plot is believable, conversations meaningful and plausible. Even the Skippy vs Bishop jokes are kinda cool again. So far I'm pleased whit the book after 4h of listening. Recommend, in opposite of last few from this series.

Definitely worth your time !

It just came out and I binged listened ! One of the better books in this series. Made me laugh out loud so many times. I enjoyed the cliffhanger at the end (unlike book 9) so I know the series will continue . The cast of characters makes this series great ! If you have never listened to this series , start with book one (chapter 10 is where it gets good) and move forward through the books from there- I look forward to more books and I am impressed that they continue to be well worth the time to listen. During this Pandemic, this series has truly saved me. Thank you Craig Alanson and R.C. Bray - you are both incredible people and the world is better with you in it !

Snoozefest

Half of the book is basically a novela about Joe and Adams. Also added pointless sjw scene that didn't even make sense. Wouldn't have cared if it actually made sense in context.

Dull, duller then good

I won’t lie, the first two thirds were a slog. Yes we got a few Kodak moments with characters I have been invested in for a long old time and some of it was pretty funny, but it was buy and large devoid of story. I dare say this book doesn’t get properly started until the 10 hour mark. It’s like the subplots were all frontloaded and then the main plot takes place afterwards. What it creates is the most bizarrely structured book I’ve seen for a while.

Why do I, Mr Internet man get up on my soapbox and lambaste this book you ask? Because I want to tell everyone to hold out for the last third. That was very good and sets up some intriguing broad drama for next time.

This book would be better if everything was in some way a little more interwoven. Do I know how? No, this series has so much going on storywise that Craig is a victim of his own success and had a lot to clear up. Could’ve done without the initial action segments for example, but I now see they were an attempt to cover up the pacing of the rest of the book.

In a sentence, what this book lacked was a good hook and pacing.

hmmmmmmmm......

skip(py) the first 13 HOURS....
Quite disappointing is my overall review...
I have to put it with 2 other highly anticipated but totally let down books...
HEAVENS RIVER....&
READY PLAYER 2....
At over 19 hours I fully expected there to be a bit of character finalisation but not until there was only 5 hours left!!!!
that said theres more to come and it hasn't put me off purchasing more in the forthcoming series....
R.C.BRAY is once again fantastic and deserves his Ferrari, yought and penthouse...

One of the best

So, this was number 11 in the series - which just gets better and better. You would have thought by now that Joe would know the sound of a shovel digging a hole...but no, he just keeps on digging. Hugely enjoyable, and as usual great audio performance by the masterly Mr Bray.

Supreme Awesomeness

I loved this. The series gets better and better. The story and performances at fantastic. So much wit, jokes and references to other works and films, it keeps the nerd in me very happy. I will be a sad monkey when I finish the very last book.
This one was gripping and very clever. As hard as I try I rarely guess what will happen or the outcome of the next tight spot the MBoP finds themselves in.

Great ,don't want it to end

How somebody, Craig Alanson could possibly keep coming up with such wonderful scenarios is beyond me. Just finished this last book in the series, hopefully it's not the last book there are many unresolved issues in the story
