Publisher's Summary

It's summer in St. Louis and Mercy Watts is on vacation from her parents. The great detective and his nosy wife are on a cruise and Mercy thinks she's off the hook for doing any investigating for them. But when a family friend has a fatal heart attack, Dad has one of his famous feelings and orders Mercy to look into it. Mercy tries not to get sucked in. She really does, but she's her father's daughter. Soon Gavin's death leads to a more grisly one, the death of a bride on her wedding day. Can the two be connected? Was Gavin murdered? Now Mercy can't stop. You do for family. That's all there is to it.

I really enjoyed this audio book. To start with I wasn't sure if I liked Mercy, I found her to be self obsorbed, self-centred and a bit annoying with what I felt was whinging. However, after a while, I realised that people probably do carry on like she does i.e. moan in their own head how annoying a family relative or friend of the family can be or when your parents do the guilt trip on you. After a while I found I could relate to her and it amused me.I thought this book had a good story line, with interesting twists and turns. I did pick early on who I thought the stalker was and for a moment there I did doubt myself until the person was revealed and I realised that it seemed quite obvious. I did like how the story wrapped up and I found that each of the individuals had pretty good character development.I certainly recommend this as a light hearted mystery with a female as the main sleuth. I look foward to the book in the series.

    "Laugh out loud."

laughing isn't something you expect from a murder. it is a really good story and the narration was good, you could tell who the different people were, and I couldn't tell who did it until the very last.

    "Not for me"

I'm glad I bought this book for 1.99 after getting the Kindle version for free. The lead character, Mercy Watts, is annoying and unlikeable. She is related to everyone involved. Mercy also has issues because she looks like Marilyn Monroe. This is a very important point in the book because it is mentioned every three pages. Although it annoys her to look like Marilyn, she doesn't seem to mind using this to her advantage. Then, she complains about it. Like I said, not for me.

    "Amazing Potential Lost"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would give the main character, Mercy Watts, a backbone!

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Having a beautiful, smart protagonist who happens to look like Marilyn Monroe would have been more interesting, if she hadn't let so many men in the book push her around! Mercy's inability to stand up for herself when faced with her father's friends, her cousin, etc. was so disappointing, and really unnecessary. Why waste so much intelligence on someone so easily pushed around?

Do you think A Good Man Gone needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Not unless it's about how Mercy toughens up.

I enjoyed this novel. It reminded me somewhat of the Spellman family Lisa Lutz writes about. Enjoyable characters.

"Fun characters, humorous, reminds me of Spellmans"

Book was well-written with good, humorous dialogue.

The family detective business reminds me of Lisa Lutz' Spellmans and since she's not writing them anymore, this is a good fit!

This is the first book in the Mercy Watts series. I downloaded the book as a freebie and I had brought the audio book before I had even finished reading it(oh and the second book).

Mercy is not you average anything, looks ... imagine Marylyn Monroe, Job... nurse (instead of your normal P.I, or detective) , which all adds to the fun as she doesn't want either she just want to be normal and have a enough money to pay the rent, and spend time with her boyfriend (who as a Dr is always on call) but with family, sneaky senior citizens and a murder nothing is ever easy.
