Publisher's Summary

It's the turn of the 20th century in New York's Lower East Side and a sense of adventure and excitement abounds for five young sisters - Ella, Henny, Sarah, Charlotte and Gertie. Follow along as they search for hidden buttons while dusting Mama's front parlor, or explore the basement warehouse of Papa's peddler's shop on rainy days. The five girls enjoy doing everything together, especially when it involves holidays and surprises. But no one could have prepared them for the biggest surprise of all!

Incredible simple story that keeps the attention of young children and older children also. Excellent for car rides.

Kids 9 and 6 can't get enough All of a Kind Family

As a mom, I appreciate that the books encourage responsibility, family, relationships, etc and teach about a religion we don't know enough about and a part of history that's often skipped in school (urban turn of the century). I like that the characters are "real" people who mess up and are loved through it all.

My kids love that they are just plain good books, well written, interesting, fun. Every chapter is a stand alone story though the characters develop over time so it's good for a bedtime story because there aren't cliffhangers.

Wonderful

This is a charming book. My children have really enjoyed listening to it. Learning about the Jewish culture of this time period has been fascinating . We love all of the books in the series.

Enjoyable classic read well

7-yr-old daughter loves listening to this book! She's listened to the whole thing at least 10 times in 3 months. Also, the narrator is great - and I am quite picky about narrators.

Great Family Read Aloud

I loved this series growing up, and I have enjoyed sharing it with my children (girl, 9 and boy, 7)! However, I have really enjoyed having the audible version this time around! The reader does an excellent job of voicing the characters so that you remember that many of them are immigrants!

Recommended

This was a sweet, wholesome story that my five year old daughter and I both enjoyed! It is a story about simple things like lost library books, family celebrations, eating soup, and going to the beach. It held our attention to the point where the story had to be paused if one of us needed to leave the room.
