Serena Carlow's former love now controls her future happiness.

Serena Carlow's former love now controls her future happiness.

After her father's unexpected death, Serena's jilted ex-fiancé—the Marquis of Rotherham—is made the sole trustee of her wealth and marriage prospects.

Eager for an escape, she moves to Bath and encounters her childhood sweetheart, the dashing Hector Kirkby—but will Rotherham approve the match?

Before long, they are all entangled in a confusion of marriage and manners the likes of which Regency Bath has rarely seen.

the narration, the characters and the inevitably of the plot into chaos and denouement. well done geargette, queen of the genre

the theatrical standard of the narration. the best I've heard. her timing was superb

The unexpected death of The Earl of Spenborough leaves his widow and only daughter in very changed circumstances but each eventually manages to find happiness again after a series of misapprehensions. Some very definite characters provide us with amusement and pathos. Well read and entertaining.

A Tangle Indeed

I never muddle up Georgette Heyer’s characters or wonder who someone is she writes each brilliantly. It’s magic. I wish the stories never ended. I become immersed in each world she conjures up.

Complex and fun

Agree with other reviewers. Rotherham's voice was overly harsh & his humor was completely missing.
A shame really, as the other characters were all convincing .

Fiesty tangle

I was so disappointed with this audio. I love Georgette Heyer, but the reader really spoilt the book. she seemed to have no understating of GHs lovely light sense of humour. I didn't like her characterisations, which were overly melodramatic and harsh. She also read way too fast.

I love Georgette Heyer but the reader was terrible

Narrator was good, but just not for me. Too many characters sounded too similar; men sounded like women; main male character was perpetually grumpy, monotone, and spoke in a rush like he was about to get the door slammed on him. Narrator's regional accent also "contaminated" the genre. Tried several times to listen through but had to return.

narration ruined it
