George R.R. Martin is the internationally best-selling author of A Game of Thrones, the award-winning fantasy novel that has been adapted into a smash hit television series.

The Game of Thrones novel was published in 1996 and is the first book in the A Song of Fire and Ice series. It is an epic seven hundred page novel brought to life in an engrossing 33 hour audiobook narrated by British character actor Roy Dotrice.

Other books in Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice series include A Clash of Kings (1999), A Storm of Swords (2000), A Feast of Crows (2005), and A Dance with Dragons (2011). Prime yourself for the series with A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms (2015), a compilation of the three prequel novellas to Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice series. Other books by Martin that are now available to discover as audiobooks include Dying of the Light (1977), and Fevre Dream (1982).

When not writing his own novels, Martin contributes to other book series as an editor. One series edited by Martin is the Wild Cards series – that includes titles Wild Cards I, Wild Cards II: Aces High, Wild Cards III: Jokers Wild, Wild Cards IV: Aces Abroad, and Wild Cards V: Down and Dirty.

In addition to editing and authoring short stories and novels, Martin is a screenwriter and has written for a number of television shows in the 1980s and 90s. Martin became a writer in 1979, after graduating Northwestern University in 1971. Martin spent a short period in the late 1970s teaching English and journalism at Clarke University in Iowa.
The books that Martin writes are adored by a legion of loyal fans whose insatiable desire for his work has at times led to unworkable demands on Martin to produce more books, faster. In 2009 the demands got to such an extent that Martin was forced to release a statement on his long-running LiveJournal site 'Not a Blog' defending himself against the intensifying complaints from readers who believed his singular focus should've been on the completion of his forthcoming novel, A Dance with Dragons. Fellow author Neil Gaiman sprang to Martin's defense, responding to one reader's complaint on his blog, in part saying, "George R.R. Martin is not your bitch". Martin has an otherwise positive relationship with his readers – he attends conventions, book tours, and informal meet ups to see fans and discuss his books.

Martin is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America and is the recipient of a Nebula Award, World Fantasy Award, and a number of Locus Awards and Hugo Awards. He was born 20 September 1948 in New Jersey and now lives in New Mexico.
