The narration was first class and the story really captured the era. I knew nothing about steam boats, with Martin's storytelling I could actually envision myself on one. it was fabulous.

Story is very well written and very well narrated. I don't know anything about steam boats and the Mississippi but George Martin was able to describe the period, the steam boats and atmosphere of that area and period flawlessly with a fantastic alternate take to vampires. Very well paced and highly enjoyable novel. Highly recommended.

The beginning was slow but I enjoyed how quickly it turned. Loved the character developments and thought it ended well.

I was expecting a less enjoyable experience, compared to other works by GRRM but I found myself enjoying just as much if not more. I truly hope that this book is one day adapted into a film or series so I can share it with people who won’t spend the time to read this amazing book.

I think it would make a good movie..
