The formation of the state is a natural stage in the development of society. This is a very lengthy process, so any event that marks the transition to the state forms of life is very conditional. Primitive society could exist, guided by two basic principles that regulated social life: custom (tradition) and the right of the strong. Centuries-old traditions were rarely challenged, so there was no need for some special mechanisms to ensure their compliance. However, as primitive society gradually changed, the relations between the congeners became more and more diverse. 

The history of Ukraine is a fascinating story of how cultures, political systems, religions, and power have met, intersected, morphed, and expanded. The region was relatively sparsely populated for much of ancient history, a wilderness of rivers, forests, and steppes, but that does not detract from the rich historical development of the region. 

Today, Russia is the biggest and one of the most populous countries in the world. From the early, primitive state-like formations in the 9th century, all the way to the creation of the first true tsardom of Russia in 1547, the history of medieval Russia is one filled with constant struggles for power, personal rivalries between various princes, bloody wars, and a search for identity.

Hoy en día, Rusia es el país más grande y uno de los más poblados del mundo. Desde las primeras y primitivas formaciones estatales del siglo IX hasta la creación del primer verdadero zarato de Rusia en 1547, la historia de la Rusia medieval está llena de constantes luchas por el poder, rivalidades personales entre varios príncipes, guerras sangrientas y búsqueda de identidad.

В 793 г. н.э. норвежские воины напали на английский остров Линдисфарн и полностью его опустошили. Волна за волной скандинавские "морские волки" следовали за добычей, землей или славной смертью в битве. Большая часть Британских островов пала под их мечами, а континентальные столицы Париж и Аахен были по очереди разграблены. Повернув на восток, они плыли по неизведанным рекам Центральной Европы, захватили Киев и вступили в схватку с могущественным Константинополем, столицей Византийской империи. Но в истории о викингах есть не только завоевания. Они ввели новую форму суда присяжных в Англии, были искушенными купцами и исследователями, которые заселили Исландию, основали Дублин и создали торговую сеть, простирающуюся от Багдада до побережья Северной Америки.

Викинги очень непросты — они не только грабители и пираты, но еще и талантливые бизнесмены и кораблестроители, прекрасные ремесленники и ювелиры, писатели, сказители и художники, путешественники и просто авантюристы до мозга костей. В одной книге рассказать о них невозможно — невольно что-то останется за бортом.
