After a dishonorable discharge from the military on trumped-up charges, all Ben wanted to do was stay under the radar and be left alone. Someone with his talents and training is not soon forgotten or left alone. Ten months of peace and quiet are about to come to an end, starting with a bar fight and a visit from a special operations officer with orders to bring him back into the fold.

Offered sanctuary in a palace in the capital of the Cjittan Empire, by the Queen who followed him on his rampage, the crew of the Claymore was living the dream. With Binda of Trillond, living the dream is about to be literal. Her prophetic dream points to an enemy emerging against the Cjittan Empire after a thousand years of peace. One man alone will strike the first blow against the enemy invaders. He will show them how the Reaper handles empires at war.  

The battle with the World Eaters had taken its toll on Benjamin Jamison. Ghosts of the past haunted him, year after year of war and skirmishes, and blood and guts had caught up with him. His relationship with Tazleaha, queen of Cjittan, has fared no better. He has had no messages from her for weeks.
