Publisher's Summary

Aliens exist...and, as it turns out, most of them aren’t that friendly. Jacob Brown wasn’t even born yet the first time they attacked Earth. He was only 14 the second time it happened.

When Earth finally came together and fielded its first spaceborne military, Jacob didn’t hesitate to volunteer. Serving aboard a mighty starship, he’d be able to defend his planet - and his family - when, inevitably, they came again.

Just as he’s about to graduate training, however, Jacob is approached by an officer from Naval Special Operation Command and given a choice: volunteer for a risky mission to a dangerous, lawless world or give up his dream of serving in the military and go home. He has no idea why he’s being singled out in such an unusual manner, but now, it's either agree to their demands or give up his dream of being on a starship.

Soon, getting his career back on the right track will be the least of his concerns when it seems like everyone - and everything - he meets is trying to kill him. When he stumbles upon a secret most people on Earth are blissfully unaware of, he realizes it's not just the aliens he needs to be worried about.

Awesome

Great way to extend the Omega Force universe into another series.

Good fun military sci fi.

Joshua always develops great characters that really draw you into his stories.

Plenty of well paced action to keep you entertained.

Excellent expansion of omega force universe

Same pacing and feel as OF. Chapter 11 and chapter 12 were out of order in my app, this needs fixing. When narrator says chapter 12 skip forward one to get chapter 11 then skip back.

Issues !?

Chapters are numbered incorrectly along with being in the wrong order. There may even be some missing.

This is really bad and IMO this version needs to be removed from the site while it gets fixed.

*EDIT*

Seems like chapters have been placed in the correct order now. -- skimmed thru a new download quickly.
They are though still listed incorrectly for example Chapter 10 is listed as chapter 13 and so on, while not a big issue it seems sloppy to me.

On the whole I found the book/story to be middling whilst compared to Joshua Dalzelle's other books in this universe.

Nailed it.

Once again Josh nails it. If you love OF or even if you don’t, get this book even if you’ve never listened to OF before. I was as always skeptical. My fear was that this book would be some crappy side trip. Josh has done a great job taking earths space exploration and military in a new direction. I feel like he could write another 10 books just following this story line. I’m excited to see what the story goes. It could go several directions. Let’s see what he does.

OF fans, but this

laughed out loud more than once can't wait for the next one. but that always seems to be the case. had the same issue with the chapters being reversed but didn't bother me I think it was 11 and 12 but few of the other reviewers have confirmed which chapters don't take my word

A great chip off the Omega Force Series Block!!

As I am a loyal Fan of the Omega Force Series (must have relistened to the Series numerous times), I am delighted to have read this first book in a new Series tied to Omega Force. Although I enjoyed the Expansion Wars Trilogy, Omega Force's comradery coupled with Paul Heitsch's delivery made for unique story telling of the highest order. I will definitely be looking for more from both Series.

kinda fun.

I enjoyed the book well enough, but there was a lot of repetition that was a little annoying. The same words and phrases were used quite a bit.

Omega Force Universe: Get this book!

OMG am I glad I read other reviews or what... I was curious that the same author and the same narrator as Omega Force creator team would produce another book together. In itself there is nothing unusual of course about winning teams coming back together for more awesomeness. But nothing rang the bell for Omega Force. So I didn't get the book until months later when I read the reviews!!! I was so happy and annoyed at the same time lol I desperately waited for another OF book and here it was (in a way) and I missed it!!! Of course I got it. Of course I listened to it all in 2 days. SO mean of the author to NOT let us know in plain words lol arghhhh...I only wish I got it sooner. I love this branching out from the main story line. The universe this team built is so fascinating and so fun. There is one spot early on in the book where the narrator says Jason instead of Jacob. That made me smile. I love both of those characters! I miss Jason and the crew tho... can't wait for another one of their books.

Another Great story....

I loved how this one is a spin off of the OF.
Having the different dynamics between Father and son and then realizing that maybe, Just maybe they aren't so different???
plus I like how the two series are in the same time frame but are kept separate. This should make for a long running series and the one big question that I have is..... When will they meet up???? Now that will be greatly anticipated!!!!

Wonderful Surprise! Excellent Book.

Every now and then I get lucky and find a book, written by an author I've never heard of, and the book hits a home run. If you are aware of Dalzelle's "Omega Force" books (I've not listened to these YET) you already know the quality of author and storyteller he is. If not, and you like military sci-fi books, BUY THIS NOW!!! LOL.

Not only was this a fantastic listen with excellently written characters and a quickly moving storyline, but the narration was fantastic. Paul Heitsch does a great job with characters but keeps you engaged all the way through.

BUY THIS BOOK! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

awesome!

Fantastic follow on, thank you so much for sharing your wonderful story telling talent. For me, audible is a perfect format. The girls can have their romantic novellas and we can have ours. Cheers from NASA, where we're busy designing space robots and listening to stories about their use in the future. Thanks thanks and thanks again Josh. Warmest regards, Kevin

Next generation

At the end of the book the author explains how and why he wrote this follow on from the Omega series. His words echoed my own thoughts as I listened to him. This book was exceptional and unlike his father the hero blunders through to victory and his colleagues get their own starring role without being super heros. Now I can look forward to both sets of books coming out and hope Josh ‘s fingers remain active!

Generally enjoyed

A good formulaic book that I enjoyed apart from the almost constant and generally pointless swearing. Really good storytellers rarely need it in these quantities if at all. It annoyed me in the generally much more enjoyable Black Fleet. but Mr Dalzelle seems more and more dependent on it. A shame for me at least. I won't be trying Omega Force or likely listening to more of these as a consequence.
