My name is Mercy Young, I’m 12 years old, and up until a couple days ago, my life has been pretty uneventful. But it’s 1775, and I live in Lexington, which apparently God Almighty has deemed fit to be the birthplace of a revolution! My papa was one of the men from town who went to confront the Red Coats (British Soldiers), who marched onto our town green and demanded that we submit ourselves to their rule. There was a terrible battle and papa was taken captive.

The Young kids are back in the second year of the Revolutionary War, but instead of the war coming to them, they hit the road and join the caravan of wives and children following the Continental Army. It’s 1776, and they’re back. The king’s redcoats have landed on Staten Island, the harbor is so full of British frigates it looks as if all London must be afloat. The breathtaking spectacle has shaken the resolve of some, the victories at Boston a distant memory now as we prepare to confront the full weight of the king’s fury.
