Death is not what Bridget Sway expected. Not at all. The afterlife is a mess of bureaucracy littered with nonsensical rules. It's a fashion disaster for a uniform and a job that doesn't pay. It's a heinous communal living situation with housemates who have no concept of privacy or personal space. And it's a handsome parole officer who is a stickler for those nonsensical rules that no one has bothered to explain. As if all of that wasn't bad enough, someone has stuffed a dead ghost in her locker...and the afterlife police are ready to pin the murder on her.

Life is hard. Change is difficult. But adjusting to being a ghost? Well, that is just darn near impossible. And Bridget Sway is struggling. It's not just the job, the uniform, the housemates, the rules, the community service. It's everything. And now she's facing a week-long group assessment to evaluate her adjustment.As if that isn't bad enough, some inconsiderate soul has shoved another dead ghost in her locker. Things are looking bleak for Bridget. If she fails the assessment, she'll be "re-educated."  

There is nothing cake can't solve. Not. One. Thing. Except, perhaps, the escape of a crazy homicidal ex-ward of Bridget Sway's handsome parole officer. Since Bridget has taken the ex-ward's place in the group home, and in the handsome parole officer's roster, it's likely she's a target for Crazy Katie's homicidal rage. When the bodies start dropping, what does Bridget do? Simple. She lets best friend, and ex-PI, Sabrina talk her into a "straightforward" evade and capture mission so they can hand the murderer over to the police and life can go back to normal. Yeah. Foolproof plan.

At long last, all of Bridget Sway's dreams are about to come true! She is in a department store. Shopping. Yes. Shopping! She has new makeup. New shoes. And, most importantly, is finally about to get some new underwear. But, instead of finding a frilly knicker and bra set, she finds the body of a dead medium. A familiar dead medium.

Between her regular job in Afterlife Arrivals, training for her second job with IA, her community service on The Bus of Death, GA meetings, taking care of her housemates, and every other ghostly commitment in between, Bridget Sway is already stretched pretty thin. Then, her best friend, Sabrina, drops a bombshell. Sabrina thinks she was murdered. And, in the afterlife, murdered dead people usually turn into homicidal maniac dead people. Despite that, Sabrina thinks if they can work out who killed her, then she might be able to get the closure she needs.

Missing shoes, stolen paperclips, and stalkers. Oh, what an afterlife! Bridget finally gets her first assignment as an Independent Authority agent: The not-so-glamorous case of The Paperclip Theft. Regardless, she is determined to close the matter quickly and move on to something more challenging. And then, the dead body of the Afterlife Arrivals commander topples out of the stationery cupboard.

Bridget's afterlife has finally settled down into a nice, safe, dead-body-free rhythm. And she couldn't be more discontent. And then someone starts murdering livies...with a scythe. Feeling partially responsible, Bridget jumps into the investigation with both feet, her best friend, Sabrina, and all of her housemates in tow. But, as crazy as it sounds, finding a killer isn't Bridget's biggest concern. Her biggest concern is how will she be able to survive the mundanity of the afterlife once the investigation is over.

Bridget Sway has been dead for seven years. She and her best friend, Sabrina, are running a wildly successful private detective agency. She gets to wear what she wants, eat what she wants, she's even made peace with her communal living situation. Everything is . . . perfect. And yet, once again, Bridget is drowning in dissatisfaction. The problem? No one is murdering anyone. Their days are filled with infidelity cases and not much else. So when a client's potentially cheating husband goes missing, Bridget and Sabrina jump at the chance to do something different.

Not so newly dead Bridget Sway is making a difference. Sort of. She and her best friend, Sabrina, are solving murders all over the show while minding their own business. And then Detective Johnson shows up at their office and drops a missing person's case in their lap. Although deeply suspicious of his motives, they decide it would be wise to at least give it a cursory investigation. Forewarned is forearmed, after all. And that's when things get messy.

Bridget and Sabrina are considering a career change when a reporter brings them a case they can't refuse. A vandal is graffitiing a small area of Scarborough. Not earth shattering as cases go, but Bridget is certain the vandal is Petal, her newly-graduated-from-probation housemate.

When Bridget Sway's friend is murdered during a seance, Bridget and her best friend, Sabrina, vow to bring the killer to justice. The problem? The seance took place in the alive world which means the killer is very likely a livie. And they have no jurisdiction in the livie world. With very few options of how to proceed, Bridget and Sabrina decide to shadow the livie detective as he investigates the death.

Bridget Sway is still uncertain about her future as a private investigator. But when the Bureau of Ghostly Affairs invites her and her business partner, Sabrina, to give a presentation at a conference, they can't really say no. Thinking it will be all tea, biscuits, and boring speeches, Bridget isn't expecting too much excitement. Until she finds a dead body. That's not totally out of the ordinary for Bridget, but something about this murder has echoes of the past.
