Adventures of a Jump Space Accountant

The Galactic Empire disappeared a lifetime ago. Jake Stewart doesn't care, he needs to earn a living. He fled his station in the outer Belt, enrolled in the merchant academy, and snagged a scholarship. The future looks bright. But a crooked boss, some paperwork shenanigans, and a freeloading best friend put him in a bind. When he's accused of a murder he didn't commit he goes on the run from the Planetary Militia. There's only his wits and a suspiciously helpful pretty girl between him and jail. Can he trust her to prove his innocence? Or does she have another agenda?

Jake tries hard, but spying is a tough job. When a botched pickup and a drunken indiscretion drop him in jail, he's sent to serve his sentence in the Milita. His new commander wants Jake's next tour to be out an airlock without a suit. At least his fellow conscript is friendly, and has a sexy single sister! But an accidental shooting and a boarding by his old friend Nadine complicate his life. Now the girls don't trust him, Mr. Dashi won't answer his calls, and there are armed ships chasing him through the rings. Is he in trouble? Or was this Dashi's plan all along?

Jakes back. He's older, wiser, and better dressed. He's going to be the coolest spy ever, then he fails his pilot exam. Disgraced, Dashi sends him out hunting missing food shipments. It's boring, but Nadine's shadowing him. Is it to find out what he knows, or just to snoop on that slinky redhead free trader pilot he took to dinner?

There are shootings in space, fighting in the streets, and Nadine is being friendly. It's the middle of a revolution but Jose is buying welding equipment, Dashi's diverted him to look for a lost ship, and Nadine has volunteered to help. Strange, but Dashi always knows what he's doing. But with alliances failing and allies fighting each other, what is really going on? Whose side is he on? The good guys? Or the bad?

The insurrection is over, and everybody lost. Except Jake—he's on the move with a new ship, a new destination, and a new crew—including some sexy francais girls! But his crew doesn't trust him, Landing is burning, the admiral's throwing his remaining weight around, and even Dashi's big promotion doesn't look like enough to save them all from anarchy.

Jake and Nadine are searching for the last reported outpost of Imperial power. But times have changed since the abandonment. Bases are not where they should be, and people are where they shouldn't. After getting shanghaied into local politics, Jake and Nadine find themselves in a civil war—on opposite sides! How can one win without the other losing?
