Publisher's Summary

A not-quite epic science fiction adventure about a down-on-his luck galactic pilot caught in a cross-galaxy struggle for survival!

Space travel just isn't what it used to be. With the invention of quantum teleportation, space heroes aren't needed anymore. When one particularly unlucky ex-adventurer masquerades as famous pilot and hate figure Jacques McKeown, he's sucked into an ever-deepening corporate and political intrigue. Between space pirates, adorable deadly creatures, and a missing fortune in royalties, saving the universe was never this difficult!

From the creator of Mogworld and Jam! Benjamin Richard "Yahtzee" Croshaw is a British Australian comedic writer, video game journalist, author, and video game developer. He is perhaps best known for his acerbic video game review series, Zero Punctuation, for The Escapist.

Really funny and packed with action!

I found myself laughing out loud from time to time at the witty comments of the main character. When the action starts early in the book, it never stops until the last chapter.

One of my favourite Sci-Fi universes, hands down

Lovingly crafted lore, endearing characters, and level of wit, cynicism and subversion that caught me completely off guard. Its the only audiobook that I can't imagine reading in the traditional way. Hats off to you, Yahtz!

Chill and Funny

I picked up Mogworld because I had an extra credit lying around and now I am digging through the full back catalogue.

Little bit Adams, a little Pratchett with a bunch of Yahtzee snark to string it all together.

Space opera with a dash of humour

Those who liked Harry Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat series should enjoy this. Not a copy by any means but the adventures a loner who manages to battle through some tough situations. Not uproariously funny, but a bit of humour mixed in with the Sci Fi. Well worth a listen

Fun, easy listening

It's a fun book, very easy to listen through both thanks to Yahtzee's writing and his narration. Not many authors could do justice to their own work, but Yahtzee is great.

It's an interesting story and setting. It puts me in mind of Firefly of all things. A down on his luck, almost anti-heroic star pilot trying to make good in a galaxy that has mostly moved past him and his profession, surrounded by peers who are still looking for the old golden age and glory days even though they're gone.

Our hero is soon overtaken by events though and the characters and situations make for entertaining, witty and also profound moments. On the one hand much of of the story isn't exactly unique and fans of sci fi will see many familiar tropes, but it is a well packaged and interesting take. It combines the fading days of the 'wild West' feel with crime and capers, mistrust, charm with an interesting economic setting, back stabbing and even a hint of political intrigue.
I'm giving it both my thumbs up! 👍 👍

Fun story, interesting universe, easy listen.

The story is quite fun, with an interesting universe to explore. It’s well built, not leaning too hard on the over-descriptive over-tech style - rather it’s easy to be absorbed into the story as it flows.
