The story gets complicated when Mr. Copley brings his granddaughter along. Interwoven with the modern story are the long ago tales of Yellow Feather, a Native American boy whose village developed the mine, and Benito, a Mestizo cook traveling with a party of Spanish conquistadores seeking to find and develop the mine.
