Ambitiøse Leena Cotton har store drømme for fremtiden, og hun lever et travlt liv i London med et hektisk job og en smart kæreste. Men hun er også udkørt og i sorg efter at have mistet sin søster, og da hun efter en uheldig episode på jobbet bliver tvunget på orlov, flygter hun ud af byen og hjem til sin elskede bedstemor, Eileen. Eileen er for nyligt blevet single i en alder af 79, men det vil hun ikke lade sig begrænse af.

Men en morgenmadsdate på valentinsdag må da betyde noget … så hvor er han? 14.43: Miranda håbede, at en valentinsfrokost med Carter ville være den perfekte anledning til at fejre sit nye job. En ny start og et tegn på at hendes voksentilværelse langt om længe er ved at falde på plads: Nu har de også datet i fem måneder, og det er ved at blive seriøst. Men hvor bliver han af?
