Publisher's Summary

Eileen is sick of being 79.

Leena's tired of life in her 20s.

Maybe it's time they swapped places....

When overachiever Leena Cotton is ordered to take a two-month sabbatical after blowing a big presentation at work, she escapes to her grandmother Eileen's house for some overdue rest. Eileen is newly single and about to turn 80. She'd like a second chance at love, but her tiny Yorkshire village doesn't offer many eligible gentlemen.

Once Leena learns of Eileen's romantic predicament, she proposes a solution: a two-month swap. Eileen can live in London and look for love. Meanwhile Leena will look after everything in rural Yorkshire. But with gossiping neighbours and difficult family dynamics to navigate up north, and trendy London flatmates and online dating to contend with in the city, stepping into one another's shoes proves more difficult than either of them expected.

Leena learns that a long-distance relationship isn't as romantic as she hoped it would be and then there is the annoyingly perfect - and distractingly handsome - school teacher, who keeps showing up to outdo her efforts to impress the local villagers. Back in London, Eileen is a huge hit with her new neighbours, but is her perfect match nearer home than she first thought?

Brilliant

Eileen Cotton OMG what an amazing woman, I need someone like her in my life, we all do! When Leena is asked (told)to take a couple of months leave from her corporate job in London. After a chat with her grandmother Eileen she decides to head home to the Yorkshire Dales and swap lives with her. Eileen moves to London for two months and this is where all the fun begins as both fit into the others space. Its written as a dual narrative alternating between the two, the conversations and banter between all the characters is fabulously written and narrated. If you are a fan of Beth O’Leary’s debut novel The Flatshare you are going to love this one. Without a doubt it’s a five star read! I am very much looking forward to her future novels!!

loved this story

In an age where being young is the only acceptable state of being it was beautiful to hear a story of people connecting without a disregard for any age. And Ilene sr is a woman worth aiming to emulate.

Pitch perfect

This book was exactly what the doctor ordered. Pithy and clever writing. Great characters. Some of the best narration I’ve heard in ages. Hooked me in all the way and left me with a lovely warm feeling when it was done.

Loved the audiobook, brilliant narration

I usually switch between audio and ebook so I can read in different situations but I loved this narration so much I just had to listen to the entire book. Obviously it helps that the story was also brilliant. The Switch is more women's fiction than romance but there were enough romantic elements to satisfy me. Where the story really excels is in the authenticity of the characters and there were heaps of them! Loved it all.

A thoroughly enjoyable story

This is my second audio book by Beth O’Leary & I was drawn into it just a quickly ad the first (“The Flatshare”). The narration was once again very evocative & enhanced the story. This is not earth shattering literature but it is a heartwarming if somewhat predictable tale with nicely developed characters. I will look for more by this author.

Just As Sweet As The Flat Share!

I loved this! Was so skeptical that it couldn't possibly be as good as The Flat Share, but it really was. The warmth, the endearing characters, the fact that one of the protagonists is a sweet elderly lady? It was such a lovely book to read and I will 100% be reading it again! The performance was great, storyline was funny and heartwarming, and the romance/s are poignant and beautifully portrayed. Can't wait for whatever Beth O'Leary brings out next!

Surprise me - easy listen.

I was sceptical based on the blurb but went for it anyway. It was a lovely story and an easy read. The two main characters were well narrated. Surely gives us a bit more appreciation for those all around regardless of age. Made me miss my Nanny.

Feel good- but not quite believable

I downloaded this book because I had enjoyed’The Flat Share’. However, This book wasn’t quite as well put together. Felt that the older characters were too old to be doing the things described, and I can’t see a reason for them having to be so old. Had they been 10 years younger, it would have been much more believable. It was a warm-hearted tale but perhaps a little trite and stretched the limits of reality a little too much.

Brilliant narration of a fab book!

I loved Beth O’Leary’s debut novel, The Flatshare and was hoping her second book, The Switch, would live up to her earlier work. I’m pleased to say it absolutely did! The Switch was a fun, heartwarming story that I enjoyed immensely. The narrators, Alison Steadman and Daisy Edgar-Jones were perfect choices for Eileen and Leena. 5 star performances all round!

Excellent book!

i bought this immediately after finishing Flatshare in hope it could be nearly half as good. I gave Flatshare 5* and this is even better! its a roller-coaster of emotions, often funny, sometimes gloriously sad, always brilliant! If Beth O'Leary isn't the successor to JK Rowling as a world class writing sensation there's no justice in the world!

As close to perfect as you can get!!

Anyone who has read The Flatshare will have been waiting with bated breath for the new book by Beth O'Leary. And believe me, this does not disappoint! I'll be honest this would not normally be the type of book I would listen to but after reading the reviews for The Flatshare and loving it, I had pre-ordered The Switch and waited patiently. It was worth the wait and more, a book filled with fun, emotion and above all heart. Rarely have I laughed out loud so much. Special mention to Alison Steadman and Daisy Edgar-Jones, who both give a masterclass on how to perfectly capture the characters and lift them from the page, outstanding. I cannot recommend both books by Beth O'Leary highly enough.

Enjoyable listen

I enjoyed listening to this book, and Beth O’Leary is so much better than the other chick lit authors out there. I felt like the romantic connection could have been developed more, or maybe extended more at the end, which is why I didn’t give it 5 stars. It left me feeling a little short changed in that regard.
