Hinter einem „gewöhnlichen Mord" auf einer Ferieninsel im Bundesstaat Georgia stand offenbar doch eine tieferliegende Intrige, die Sherlock Holmes ganz und gar nicht vermutet hatte. Bankdirektor Benjamin Hampton, der immer noch in der Rolle des Gönners von Watson und Holmes auftritt und den beide aus London gut kennen, scheint plötzlich doch keine ganz so weiße Weste mehr zu haben. Even though the deceased was heavily armed with a medieval axe, he himself died from severe wounds. Holmes offers a surprising conclusion.
