Il n’est qu’une pluie de cendres. Elle s’est noyée dans un ciel trop vaste. Lors de la soirée de pré-rentrée à l’université, Sky, décidée à laisser ses démons derrière elle, jette son dévolu sur Ash. Prête à assumer cette aventure d’un soir, elle ignore les avertissements de sa colocataire et se lance dans le jeu de la séduction, mais perd lamentablement la partie. Elle fait fuir Ash, non sans avoir entrevu ses blessures. La part d'ombre d’un jeune homme qui a tout connu, même le pire. Surtout le pire.

" On ne tombe pas amoureuse d'un inconnu. Au final, tu n'es rien de plus pour moi, Ash. ". Le jeu dans lequel Ash et Sky se sont lancés, ils l’ont tous les deux perdu. Désormais séparés, ils sont persuadés qu’il est trop tard pour recoller les morceaux de leur histoire avortée. À Bloomington, Sky est déterminée à avancer et refuse de se lamenter. À New York, Ash tente de se relever, mais ses souvenirs reviennent le hanter et ses blessures se ravivent.
