Story
Greg Mullins followed his father into fighting bushfires - it was in the blood. He fought major fires around Sydney and the Blue Mountains for decades, and studied bushfires in Europe, Canada and the US. He risked his life in the 1994 Sydney fires and, later, during our catastrophic Black Summer of 2019-20. As a career firefighter, he worked his way up the ranks to become commissioner of one of the world's largest fire services, Fire and Rescue NSW, for nearly 14 years. When it came to natural disasters there was little, if anything, he hadn't witnessed first-hand.

Story
In a triumph of marketing, the Tasmanian salmon industry has for decades succeeded in presenting itself as world's best practice and its product as healthy and clean, grown in environmentally pristine conditions. But what are we eating when we eat Tasmanian salmon? Richard Flanagan's expose of the salmon farming industry in Tasmania is chilling. In the way that Rachel Carson took on the pesticide industry in her groundbreaking book Silent Spring, Flanagan tears open an industry that is as secretive as its practices are destructive and its product disturbing.

Story
The twists and turns of the last 15 years of the Qantas story contain all the ingredients of a corporate thriller, with constant shocks to the system, and boardroom dramas and disasters narrowly avoided. During this tumultuous period, as CEO of Australia's iconic airline, Alan Joyce became one of the best-known corporate figures in Australia, and one of the most polarising. Global aviation expert Peter Harbison tells the full and unvarnished story of this fascinating period of the Qantas journey.

Story
Gathered here is that story and others written in the shadow of the bushfires that ravaged Australia. In the midst of the death and grief of animals, humans, trees and ecologies, Celermajer asks us to look around - really look around - to become present to all beings who are living and dying through the loss of our shared home. At once a howl in the forest and an elegy for a country's soul, these meditations are lyrical, profound and heartbreaking.

Story
A response to the devastating 2019-20 bushfires, Animals Make Us Human both celebrates Australia’s unique wildlife and highlights its vulnerability. Writers and researchers reflect on their connection with animals and nature. They share moments of wonder and revelation from encounters in the natural world: seeing a wild platypus at play, an echidna dawdling across a bush track or the inexplicable leap of a thresher shark; watching bats take flight at dusk or birds making a home in the backyard; or following possums, gliders and owls into the dark.

Story
Humans have been lucky enough to call dogs our best friends ever since one brave wolf dared sneak food scraps from a campfire more than 20,000 years ago - but we're not the only creatures to experience the joy of canine companionship. In A Dog's Best Friend, Laura Greaves introduces inseparable buddies for whom species is no barrier to unconditional love. They may be unusual pairings, but they are as deep, true and devoted as any human twosome. These uplifting stories of dogs and their unlikely mates are living proof of the life-changing power of friendship.

Story
In every coastal town in Australia, there's a bait shop and a boat ramp. Fishing rods are strung up in laundries and garages around the country, waiting for their next outing. Walk over a bridge, look across to a wharf and there will be people casting a line. Many people have a special fishing spot, and families pass on tips from generation to generation and exchange fishy tales of amazing catches and near misses. Bringing her personal passion for throwing in a line, author and historian Anna Clark celebrates the enduring pleasure of fishing in The Catch.
