About this listen

In the drought-ridden rangelands of Western Australia, Gabe Ahern makes his living trapping wild dogs for local station owners.

Still coming to terms with his wife's death - and the part he played in it - the old bushman leads a solitary life. Until one morning, when he rescues a young Afghan man, Altair, from certain execution.

Now, with a gang of people smugglers on his tail and the lives of Altair's family on the line, Gabe is drawn into a ruthless game of cat and mouse. His main opponent is Chase Hunter, a kangaroo hunter with bush skills as wily and sharp as his own.

As the old dogger and roo-shooter go head to head, Gabe will need all his cunning to come out of this alive.©2022 Michael Trant (P)2022 Penguin Random House Australia

Hooked me from the beginning, then dragged me on a wild and blasphemous ride.
Loved the characters, the gripping plot, the sensitivity towards hot topics, but mostly the heart of it all. A book with big beating heart. ❤️

Multi layered wonder

I am from WA - loved this one ; it had good characters and a moving plot , and allowed for good progressions into the good and bad guys, it really didn't stagnate anywhere the doggers manta and all his consistencies read a bit like crocodile Dundee and the aboriginal fella and that friendship read a bit like that and really worked well - characters you liked and followed and cared for , and written memorably that you couldn't put it down, good choice in the narrator for tthe audio book , I don't think it would of worked as well without such a good one at the helm - definitly give this one a go , it's a ripper!

Have read a few books this month and this did it for me

What a great story. Not a boring minute to be had. Keep them coming, this is the type of book you ring in sick to work so you can finish the story.

I found it slow to get going initially but I persevered and was rewarded with an intense storyline that had me finding any excuse to listen to more!
The 'Dogga' was a tortured character with great depth.

Chose this book while travelling in a Motorhome through WA. Listened to both Wild Dogs and Without Trace enjoyed both immensely. Great plots and a fantastic reader.
