To those who know her, it’s hardly a surprise that Jenny Blackhurst would eventually become a crime writer. After the birth of her first son, she returned to her childhood love of thrillers and crime fiction and wrote her debut novel, How I Lost You. Jenny joins Robin Morgan in the Audible Studios to discuss her latest psychological thriller, Before I Let You In.

In August 2014 Jenny Diski was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer and given 'two or three years' to live. She didn't know how to react. All responses felt scripted, laden with cliché. Being a writer, she decided to write about it (grappling with the unoriginality even of this) and to tell a story she had not yet told: that of being taken in, aged 15, by the author Doris Lessing and the subsequent 50 years of their complex relationship.

Joining us at Audible Studios is English comedian, novelist and actress Jenny Eclair. Jenny's most recent novel is called Inheritance. The book, set in Cornwall, centres around the mansion Kittiwake, which has seen many pass through its doors since it was bought by American heiress Peggy Carmichael 70 years ago. Dorothy Wordsworth was born in Cockermouth in 1771, being one year younger than her brother William. After their mother died in 1778, they were separated and did not return to the Lake District until 1794, when they spent two happy months walking around the hills near Keswick, eventually settling down at Grasmere in 1799.
