  • Growth with SEO & Email
    Nov 20 2024

This week’s podcast is all about the two of the most powerful tools you can use to take your business to the next level: SEO and Email Marketing. Why these strategies are so effective and how you can make the most of them—without feeling overwhelmed by tech or jargon? Whether you’re a complete beginner or you’ve dabbled before, there’s something here for you.

I’ll start with SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). This isn’t about chasing algorithms or trying to outsmart Google. It’s about making your website work for you, so the right people find you when they’re searching for what you do. I break down the basics in simple steps and share tips to help you improve your rankings, boost your visibility, and get more of the right leads through your digital door.

Then, we shift gears to email marketing—my personal favourite for building real, meaningful connections with your audience. I show you how email can be a game-changer (without actually using that word). From nurturing relationships to encouraging repeat business, emails can help you grow sustainably and stay top-of-mind with your clients. And it doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming to get started!

The best part? SEO and email work brilliantly together. Imagine someone finding you online through search, then joining your email list, where you can continue to offer value, share your expertise, and gently guide them towards working with you. It’s like having a sales funnel that runs itself in the background while you focus on what you do best.

Throughout the episode, I’ve shared real-world examples, practical advice, and a few common mistakes to avoid. It’s all about making these strategies work for you—your business, your goals, and your way of doing things. Because when you get them right, they’re not just tactics—they’re long-term investments in your growth.

So, if you’re ready to stop waiting for leads to magically appear and start creating a strategy that actually delivers, this episode is for you. Have a listen, take a few notes, and let’s make growth happen.

  • Spread the Word: Boost Your Business with Testimonials & WOM
    Nov 13 2024

In this week’s episode, I’m breaking down some key strategies to really grow your business using client referrals and testimonials—two massively underrated tools. It’s something that often gets overlooked in favour of flashy marketing tactics, but the reality is, nothing builds trust faster than a recommendation from someone who’s experienced what you offer firsthand. And it doesn’t cost you anything extra. I mean, imagine having people do the promoting for you, simply because they believe in your work that much.

Let’s be honest, getting referrals isn’t just about asking someone to drop your name now and then. It’s about creating a service and experience that people want to share. Think about those businesses you can’t stop talking about—there’s a reason for that. I’m covering exactly how you can make your service so memorable that clients practically become your brand ambassadors.

I also talk about the power of testimonials. But here’s the trick: it’s not just about collecting them; it’s about displaying them in a way that connects with potential clients. It’s easy to have a nice blurb on your website, but if you can use these testimonials as stories that demonstrate real results, it’s a game changer. People love stories—they want to know what you’ve achieved for others like them, not just see a few sentences on a page.

Another focus is on making asking for referrals a natural part of your process. When you wait too long or only ask once, you’re missing out. There’s an art to it, and I’m diving into the best ways to do it without feeling pushy or uncomfortable. The goal is to weave it seamlessly into your interactions so that it feels completely natural—and your clients are more than happy to spread the word.

I also share a few personal anecdotes from my own journey, because I know just how powerful referrals and testimonials have been for growing my own business. These strategies aren’t just theory—they’re real, practical ways I’ve used, and I know they can work for you too. And the best part is, these aren’t time-consuming tactics; they’re just smart business.

Finally, I want you to see referrals and testimonials as not just another tool, but as a core part of building a trusted brand. When clients vouch for you, they give your business credibility that no ad spend can match. So, take these insights, apply them to your own process, and watch the difference it makes.

Remember, growth doesn’t always mean more marketing spend or bigger budgets. Sometimes, it’s just about deepening the trust that’s already there.

  • Goal Achieved! What Now? Crafting Your Next Chapter
    Oct 30 2024

For this week's episode, I’m talking about the feeling you get after hitting a big goal and the mix of emotions that come with it – the elation, the excitement, and sometimes, the inevitable crash afterwards. It's been on my mind a lot these past few days, and I reckon many of you will relate, especially when you've pushed yourself hard to reach something important.

To give you some context, I’ve just wrapped up my first season competing as a natural wellness bodybuilder, meaning no performance-enhancing drugs – which makes the journey tougher, but all the more rewarding. I set four big goals with my trainer 18 months ago: to step on stage and enjoy it, look incredible, stay sober, and win. This weekend, I competed in my second and final show of the season, where I came first in the over-40s and second in the novice category. So, yes! I smashed every single goal I set out to achieve, and that’s a pretty incredible feeling.

But, like in business, hitting those milestones brings its own challenges. Right after the competition, I was buzzing, calling my mum and the kids, and feeling on top of the world. But then, slowly, reality set in. That question of “what’s next?” loomed large, and the doubts crept in. You know the kind – “Was it a fluke? Can I ever look like that again?” It’s fascinating how our minds can try to sabotage us just when we’ve accomplished something we thought impossible.

In both business and personal life, when you’ve reached a major goal, the aftermath can feel like a bit of a come-down. And it’s okay to feel that way! I’ve learnt that it’s important to allow yourself to process these emotions rather than brushing them off. For me, it meant taking a few days to rest, go off-plan with my food, and release those built-up emotions. Once that was done, I could refocus, get back to my routines, and start planning the next chapter.

Today, I’m meeting with my coach to set new goals. I know what I want – to keep competing, to get my pro card – but I need a solid plan to make it happen. And that’s what I encourage all of you to do, too. In business, when you reach a big goal, take time to reset and then start planning your next move with clarity. Having a mentor or a coach can help point out the best steps forward, which is what I aim to do with my clients at TLC. It’s about having someone in your corner who can see things from an outside perspective.

Finally, if you’re feeling a bit stuck after achieving something significant or you’re not sure where to go next, remember that it’s all part of the journey. Recognise your achievements, surround yourself with support, and set those new goals. Growth happens outside your comfort zone, but it doesn’t have to happen alone. So, take that time to reflect, plan, and prepare for your next chapter – because there’s always more to come!

  • Reflections on 14 Years of Landscaping: One Thing I’d Do Differently
    Oct 23 2024

In this week's podcast, I reflect on the past 14 years of running a landscaping business and share one big thing I’d do differently if I could go back. Running a business is full of ups and downs, and looking back, there’s always something you wish you had handled differently, isn’t there?

Aura Landscapes started as a small dream and grew into an award-winning business. Over the years, we’ve transformed countless outdoor spaces, and I’ve learned more than I could’ve imagined when I first started. It wasn’t always smooth sailing, though. In fact, there were some tough lessons along the way, and I’ve realised that one of the biggest improvements I could’ve made early on was putting systems and processes in place right from the start.

The one thing I’d do differently? I’d have put systems in place from day one. I can’t stress enough how important it is to have the right processes and structure from the start. In those early days, we were winging it, and while it worked to an extent, it led to a lot of unnecessary stress and firefighting. If I had the knowledge I have now, I would have spent more time building a solid foundation with clear systems to manage everything from client enquiries to project execution.

Another thing I touch on is the power of understanding your numbers. Financials are the backbone of any business, but in the early years, I wasn’t as on top of it as I should have been. Cash flow forecasting, pricing correctly, and making data-driven decisions can make or break a business. I share how we eventually turned things around, but it would have been far smoother if I’d focused on this from the get-go.

And that’s not all—having the right team around you is absolutely key. In the early days, I was trying to do it all myself. But as the business grew, it became clear that I needed the right people in the right roles. Finding and trusting the right team members took time, but it made such a difference. Once you have a solid team who believe in the vision as much as you do, it lightens the load and helps the business move forward more smoothly.

Whether you’re just starting out or have been in the game for years, you’re always evolving, and so is your business. The key is to stay open to change and growth, even if it means admitting that you didn’t get it perfect the first time around.

To wrap things up, I leave you with this: no matter where you are in your journey, remember that it’s never too late to make changes. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, step back and take stock. What’s the one thing you’d do differently if you could start again? That’s where your next step lies.

  • In Business Mindset Matters
    Oct 16 2024

In this week’s podcast episode, I talk about one of the most important keys to success: mindset. If you’re not in the right headspace, it doesn’t matter how hard you work – you’ll keep hitting the same walls. So, if you want to make real progress in your business and life, you’ve got to start by working on what’s happening up here (points to head).

I share personal stories about the power of mindset and how it has shaped my own journey. Whether you’re trying to grow your business, smash through fitness goals, or tackle personal challenges, it all comes down to your thinking. I talk about how, when I changed my mindset, everything else followed – from my business results to my health. It wasn’t an easy switch, but it was worth it.

How to start shifting your mindset, even if it feels impossible right now? I’ve been there, stuck in that negative loop, wondering why things aren’t working out despite the hard work. But the truth is, sometimes it’s not about what you’re doing, but how you’re thinking about it. I’ll guide you through practical steps to change your inner dialogue and start seeing different results.

I also talk about the importance of having a strong support system. It’s one thing to work on your mindset alone, but having people around you who lift you up and keep you focused is a massive part of the process. I share why it’s crucial to surround yourself with people who believe in you, push you to be your best, and help you stay on track when things get tough. After all, mindset isn’t just about what’s happening in your own head, it’s about who you’ve got around you to support and encourage you.

Now, the connection between mindset and self-belief. If you don’t believe in yourself, who else will? The way you think directly impacts your confidence and your ability to take action. I explain how building a strong, positive mindset creates the foundation for success in every area of life.

I also touch on the common struggles many of us face – self-doubt, fear of failure, and feeling stuck. These are all signs that your mindset needs a reset. I give tips on how to turn these obstacles into opportunities for growth, so you can stop holding yourself back and start moving forward with confidence.

So, if you’re ready to take control of your mind and see the results you’ve been dreaming of, start mastering your mindset today.

  • Growth only Happens Outside Your Comfort Zone
    Oct 9 2024

In this week’s episode, I talk about something I know resonates with so many of us – the idea that growth only happens outside your comfort zone. I’ve been there myself, running two businesses and prepping for a bodybuilding competition, all while juggling life’s demands. It’s not easy, but that’s exactly why stepping outside our comfort zones is so important. We can’t expect to grow or reach our full potential if we stay in the same place, doing the same things that feel safe and easy.

Why prioritising is key? We often feel overwhelmed by the number of things we need to get done, but part of pushing beyond our comfort zone is learning how to manage that. It’s about looking at what truly matters in both the short and long term, and giving those tasks the attention they deserve. Yes, some things will be tough, but facing those challenges head-on is what drives progress. There’s no room for growth if we’re constantly putting off the hard stuff!

Mindset is everything. You can have all the plans and goals in the world, but if your mindset isn’t in the right place, you’ll struggle to push past the limits you’ve set for yourself. I share how I’ve worked on this in my own life, especially in my bodybuilding journey. It’s been all about confronting those inner barriers and knowing that stepping into discomfort is part of the process – whether it’s lifting heavier weights or taking bold steps in business.

But let’s not forget the importance of rest. We tend to think that pushing ourselves non-stop is the only way to grow, but that’s not true. There’s a fine line between pushing yourself and burning out. I talk about how taking a step back to rest and recharge isn’t a setback – it’s essential. You’ll be amazed at how much more energy and clarity you have after giving yourself the time to breathe. This is part of getting uncomfortable too – accepting that rest is productive.

We can’t also overlook the importance of a support system. As a coach, I know how important it is to have the right people around you. Having a mentor, a coach, or a supportive community, or others who can push you, guide you, and lift you up is absolutely critical to success. Growth might happen outside your comfort zone, but that doesn’t mean you have to do it alone. Surround yourself with those who believe in you, and you’ll be amazed at how much further you can go.

Moreover, it’s important as well to get comfortable with saying “no” or stepping away from things that don’t serve your growth. We’re conditioned to think we have to do it all, but real growth comes when you focus on the right things. Whether it’s in business or personal life, sometimes the hardest step is learning to let go of what’s holding you back, even if it feels safe or familiar.

So, let me leave you with this: the challenges you’re facing now are part of your story. They’re not permanent, and they’re definitely not a sign that you’re not cut out for this. Keep going, keep pushing, but also, remember to breathe. You’ve got this!
