In the city I was brought up in , here in the Waikato , Kirikiriroa (Hamilton). I grew up in a heavely occupied gang neighbour hood in regards to the eyes of colonizers. Through my eyes it was home and whanau familys , but sometimes the neighbourhood would raise up hell and go to work on different gang affiliates.

Gangs are apart of this society thanks to goverment initiatives that fail my people. Taking young kids from there homes and putting them in homes that have a high probability of sexual abuse and abuse in general.

Hence the gang culture was born.

I Korero with Bonnie Maihi, Rapper, MC , HipHop culture representitive and also a University scholar who is about to embark on her Doctorite.

Bonnie was brought up in a gang whanau and has been navigating this space since she was born. She is a leader in many ways and is also a serviver or cancer.

I had the the pleasure of sitting down and re connecting with an old friend, Maria Huata. Maria is a twin, her twin sister sadly past away not so long ago and I would like to acknowledge Pania Huata.

Dal is from the hood, I grew up with his brother Andre kicked it with our homie Brownie Koti who was murdered a few years ago. We all grew up in Fairfield and went to Insoll primary.
