Jem Bendell - "Breaking Together"

  • Summary

  • In his new book, "Breaking Together", Jem Bendell argues we are experiencing the collapse of industrial civilization due to the ecological and climate crisis. A former Professor of Sustainability Leadership at the University of Cumbria, Bendell defines his position as Left “eco-libertarian,” supporting human freedom outside of centralized corporate and government structures. He proposes that, often, this freedom is best expressed in tight-knit communities living in balance with their environment. He argues against hyper-technological approaches such as carbon capture or geo-engineering, in favor of humans relearning traditional methods that are inherently resilient and regenerative, and reinventing small-scale communities.
