  • Epilogue 1990
    May 22 2023

On this Epilogue episode of 1990 I discuss the previous episode in which I talked about racism in my predominantly Asian elementary school located in Chinatown and what it was like attending that school in Frisco at the time, I shared a story of a young lady named Tenisha Hardy who was murdered in my community and the impact it had on my community as well as stories of my physical abuse by my brother.

This episode, I will answer some of the questions I received regarding that episode and dive a little deeper into the episode.

    1. Do you think growing up in this environment has impacted you as an adult? If so, how?
    2. What is your relationship like with your brother now?
    3. You talked about economics briefly about you having to pay for school lunch versus some of your classmates. What was your families finances or economics?
    4. How did you stay out of street drama growing up around all these things? The violence? The drugs? Just everything
    5. How do you feel about black men not protecting black women?

On this episode of #InMyLifetime444 - Episode 2 1990, I discuss racism, my own child abuse experience, and the murder of a 15 year old teenage girl that change my neighborhood Fillmoe forever.

Due to the increase use of crack cocaine (coke too) in the late 1990s, the homicide and robbery rates in San Francisco increased. With large numbers of handgun carrying juveniles that were involved in the drug trafficking enterprise, led to more murders in a city, that at that time was known more for Castro St and not ALL the violence.

With the high demand for crack cocaine, the city became a dangerous place to live. Take a listen and let's unpack these times.

As most of you know, an epilogue is the final segment of a story and effectively serves as one final chapter. As I close this chapter of my life of 1998, I felt it would be good to field a few questions that I have a received from family, friends, and strangers.

I will be answering the 5 most common questions I have received about the episode and I think these answers might give more context.

On this episode of "In My Lifetime" I take you on a journey back to 1998...this was the year my daughter was born. Becoming a father and being a father are not one and the same and definitely not an easy task at 17. The pressures at time became unbearable which led me to writing a letter titled "F This World!"

This episode deals with the mental state mind of a teen parent faced with the adversities of being told to give up his rights as a parent as well as the mind set of a teen being told he has to pay child support of $363 per month at 17.
