    Aug 18 2025

Sa eagrán speisialta saoire seo de Gaeilge Thar Lear, tugaimid cuairt ar Egmond-aan-Zee ar chósta na hÍsiltíre.

Pléim an t-aisteir ó bheith i gcónaí gar don fharraige mar Éireannach, go dtí an taithí aisteach trá a lorg thar lear. Déanaim machnamh ar chumhacht na farraige anois agus mé i bhfad uaithi, agus ar an gcaoi a bhfuil cósta Atlantach na hÉireann fós uathúil i gcomparáid leis na tránna gan chríoch san Ísiltír.

Déanann an t-eagrán comparáid idir mo chuairt i Meitheamh 2020, i rith na dianghlasála Covid – nuair a dhóigh an ghrian mé agus nár éirigh liom taitneamh a bhaint as – agus mo chuairt i Lúnasa 2025, nuair a bhí an dúshlán níos mó ná an ghrian: beirt pháistí beaga le tabhairt faoi chúram. Is scéal é faoin gcaoi a bhféachaimid siar le grá ar ár gcéad chuairt teaghlaigh chun na trá, agus ar an strus a mhothaíomar i bhfíor-am.

    Seo an leagan Gaeilge líofa.

In this holiday eagrán of Gaeilge Thar Lear, we’re in Egmond-aan-Zee on the Dutch coast.

I talk about the strange feeling, as an Irish person used to always having the sea nearby, of needing to travel abroad just to reach the beach. Now that I live far from the ocean, I appreciate its power more – and while the Dutch coast stretches on endlessly, there’s something uniquely special about the Irish Atlantic coastline.

I compare two visits: June 2020, during the lockdowns, when I got badly sunburnt and couldn’t enjoy the trip, and August 2025, when the real challenge was looking after two small children at the beach. In the moment, it felt stressful, but when we look back at it in the future, it will be a lovely memory – our first family trip to the sea as four.

This one is a bit of a mix of a regular episode and a bonus one, as although I put a three-part structure to it and made some notes, it was not as well planned out as other ones. See what ye think of it agus go raibh maith agaibh má éisteann sibh leis!

  • #11b Níos Éasca: GAA - CLG - Ó Dhúrlas go GAA+: Cuimhní, Cluichí agus Ceangal Thar Lear (EN-GA)
    Aug 11 2025

Sa eagrán seo de Gaeilge Thar Lear, smaoiníonn Oisín ar an gcaoi a n-athraíonn an saol thar lear de réir mar a théann an t-am thart — ón eachtraíocht agus spleodar sna fichidí go mothú níos doimhne ar an bhfadú sna tríochaidí. Pléann sé a chaidreamh leis an GAA ó bhog sé thar sáile, agus an chaoi a mbíonn sé deacair traidisiúin nua a chruthú nuair a bhíonn na sean-nósanna imithe i léig.

Seo é an leagan dhátheangach Gaeilge-Béarla.

In this episode of Gaeilge Thar Lear, Oisín reflects on how the experience of living abroad changes over time — from the excitement and adventure of your twenties to a deeper sense of distance in your thirties. He explores how his relationship with watching GAA has evolved since moving away from Ireland, and how losing old traditions can make it harder to form new ones. The episode also touches on how powerful childhood memories and emotional ties to sport can make it difficult to accept a watered-down version of the match-day experience.

This is the bilingual version - English and Irish.
