E3S1: Award-winning Black Storytellers Valerie Tutson and Len Cabral

  • Summary

  • It's not a game, ya'll.  Black storytelling is a calling, a balm, but it is also a career. In this episode, we learn more about the essential role of black storytelling from tellers Len Cabral and Valerie Tutson.   For Len, storytelling breathes life in a lush Cape Verdean family legacy that goes back as far as the 1800s. To Val, who identifies as a biracial, storytelling was the deliberation space of her childhood,  the place where she engaged her embattled family legacies. Len and Val affirm that our storytelling chronicles, heals, and bridges generations.
