Partly exciting and dull

The narration was good, but plot predictable. Ive read some of the authors previous books which had more thrills...

Good storytelling but hard-to-believe elements

I found listening to the book entertaining and the performance of the reader was great. But there were some elements of the story I found very hard to believe and this undermined my overall enjoyment of it. Mainly, why would people not immediately make the connection between Red's recent romantic past and what happened to her new boyfriend, including trained police, a psychologist, her family, etc.? It seems highly unlikely. Secondly, I found Red not a very sympathetic character. Although I guess it can be explained by shock, her reaction to what happened to Carl seemed very selfish, as exemplified by her tantrum about not wanting to eat lamb when she visits her parents - I mean, in the scheme of things, it doesn't seem very important? But as I say, the book is OK - just not great.

Repeat of an earlier book?

I quite enjoyed this book although it seemed a bit dragged out and a bit like an earlier Roy Grace which featured a narcissist serial killer.
Have enjoyed other books in this series more.
