Publisher's Summary

Anxiety is a survival skill gone haywire. It happens when our brain is working so hard to protect us that it forgets to notice that the danger has passed. It feels like choking, stifling, smothering, tingling, panicking - our brains cut out and we start to make bad decisions - all normal anxiety reactions.

Dr. Faith G. Harper, author of the best-selling Unf--k Your Brain and This is Your Brain on Depression packs a ton of knowledge and help into this practical manual. She helps us understand the history and science of anxiety, realize when it’s become a serious problem, know the difference between anxiety and other conditions, and cope with it in the moment as well as addressing it long term.

This audiobook is a lifesaver for panic attacks, breaking out of flight-fight-freeze responses, similar and co-occurring conditions, and for chronic anxiety. Straightforward, funny, kind, and judgment-free, it includes a wide range of tips, exercises, and medical interventions. It’s also good for people who aren’t burdened by daily anxiety but want to cope better with the tough life situations we all face. Listen to this audiobook and breathe!

A light overview of anxiety

Covers the types of anxiety, triggers, and various treatment options.

A good overview for someone trying to understand more about anxiety.

Doesn't give much for managing anxiety.

Great info

Great info like all of her books. And had new information I didn’t already know which is rare for me and the topic of anxiety.

Very helpful but sometimes I cringe

very helpful and interesting, I took away one star because the author sounds like she's trying to be "hip with the teens", like a lot of the swearing sounds forced and out of place, and sometimes she tries to talk like a teen but it sounds like satire

Simple and basic listen.

Content - The content focus on simplifying anxiety for those who want to understand what they are going through. By simplifying the history and treatment paths of anxiety disorder, this read was easy to follow as a support worker and has given me more insight into the importance of alternative options other than medications.

Audio Quality - Good, listened via audible.

Overall -  Was a good listen, simple to follow along with.

Recommendation - . Recommend to anyone wanting a basic understanding of anxiety and how it affects the body and mind.

absolutely brilliant

all of the science in an easy, digestible format.
Faith uses terms to be hip but her "easy to understand " storytelling has been pivotal I'm helping me understand Anxiety.

Hard to Listen to...

Was looking forward to listening to this, however found it to be difficult. The narrator sounds a bit too "AI like" and the content of the book wasn't overly captivating, a lot of unnecessary swearing (and I'm someone who swears a lot) and the authors political agenda quickly arose with talk about "rich white men" and "privilege" early on in the piece. I had to throw in the towel after about 30 minutes.
