Some day in the not-so-far-off future, you're going to be eating an ice cream sandwich at Hagan Das or drinking your favorite Pina Colada at Margaritaville. You're laughing, joking, enjoying a nice Spring day.

Suddenly, you feel a dull thud under your feet and the ground shakes violently. You look up and notice a huge mushroom cloud rising up into the sky making it darker and darker. Then, you notice a brilliant reddish-orange wall of light coming at you and actually melting cars, trucks and buildings and blowing the smithereens all over the place in all directions. You realize that it is moving so fast, there is no way that you and your family and friends can get out of the way.

As you take in the startled, surprised and shocked look on the faces of those around you, you notice a slight twinge and then you are no more. As the orange wall of heat reaches you, you are incinerated along with everyone and everything you have known as part of your reality.

OR the ONLY OTHER alternate reality.

The weather has gotten warmer and warmer to the point that many people around you have begun to wear space suits. They are totally covered from head to foot in a pressurized and air-conditioned suit complete with a helmet that provides enough oxygen for the wearer to live and breathe comfortably.

You can't afford such a Climate Suit, as they are called, so you try to get your errands done even though you can barely breathe. You're sweating all over your body, but so is everyone else who is not wearing a Climate Suit, which is most people at the time.
