In 1984, Detective Eric O'Malley investigated the bizarre deaths of a young couple, their bodies found naked by the side of a creek in Sydney's northern suburbs. Shortly before their demise, O'Malley learned, the pair had attended a swingers' party.

The case was barely open before it was deemed an accident. But O'Malley knew it was murder. He just couldn't prove it.

Thirty-five years later, O'Malley is found dead in his flat in what looks like a drug overdose. But his son James knows something's amiss. His dad was close to solving that case after all these years. And someone else knew it.

To track down his father's killer, James must find the men and women who were there on the fateful night when that young couple died. This was the night of 'The Goodbye Party' - and uncovering its secrets will lead James down a dark path, filled with horrific twists and turns.

Inspired by Sydney’s real-life Bogle-Chandler case, playwright Louis Nowra (writer of Australian classics Cosi, Radiance and The Golden Age) creates an enthralling multicast audio drama, featuring an exceptional cast including Ben Oxenbould (Deep Water, Wolf Creek), Steve Bisley (Water Rats, Mad Max), and Aaron Pedersen (Mystery Road, Jack Irish).

Don’t miss it!

This is a fantastic performance, if you like mysteries. One of the best audio performances I’ve listened to (I listen to at least 5 a month over the past year or so!
Would love to see the entire cast listed with their characters (and definitely not just 1 of the women )

Nice work, everyone involved!!

I’m lovin’ it!

The 1950’s radio serial makes a triumphant return but with a 21st Century locus. The only thing missing is the smell of warm bakelite!

The Goodbye Party

Somehow nostalgic, probably the delivery, reminded me of a radio serial but nevertheless definitely worth listening to. Narrated by great Australian actors, this suspenseful drama kept me listening when I should have been doing other things!! Highly recommended.

I wanted to like this but I didn't...

The main narrator was good some were over the top.. it just didn't keep my interest I felt like I was listening to a home and away cast at times... Couldn't finish it.

Great listen. More please<br />

I loved every minute of this and thoroughly enjoyed it. Only thing wrong was the twists and turns kept me up far too late and wore out my batteries!
We need more of these please!

Interesting! Good murder mystery.

Well written and well acted. Even with the seedy subject matter of swingers, I really enjoyed this. Would definitely listen to more by this writer and performers.

Compelling story telling

As always, Louis Nowra (one of Australia's best playwrights) has written a brilliant story set in Sydney about murder and intrigue in the fringes of mainstream society. Featuring some of Australia's best actors, this story works brilliantly as radio/ voice performance although it could easily be adapted to film/ mini-series format. The 12 half hour episodes are easy to listen to. The production has a great internal rhythm apart from the occasional elongated beat pause which wasn't really necessary, and it was easy to become immersed in the world of the story. Worth buying and listening to.
