Good Sugar Bad Sugar tackles the biggest dietary threat to the modern world: sugar. Due to refined sugar in so many foods, we are seeing epidemics of obesity and type II diabetes on a global scale. The warnings are stark - a 50 percent rise in the death toll from type II diabetes in the next 10 years - yet it's not as straightforward as telling people to cut down on the sugar. Sugar consumption is an addiction that begins at birth and it requires a proven method to get you free.

What could possibly be “lucky” about addiction? Absolutely nothing, thought Laura McKowen when drinking brought her to her knees. As she puts it, she “kicked and screamed . . . wishing for something - anything - else” to be her issue. The people who got to drink normally, she thought, were so damn lucky. But in the midst of early sobriety, when no longer able to anesthetize her pain and anxiety, she realized that she was actually the lucky one. Lucky to feel her feelings, live honestly, really be with her daughter, change her legacy.

Story
This is the age of addiction, a condition so epidemic, so all encompassing and ubiquitous, that unless you are fortunate enough to be an extreme case, you probably don't know that you have it. What unhealthy habits and attachments are holding your life together? Are you unconsciously dependent on food? Bad relationships? A job that doesn't fulfill you? Numb, constant perusal of your phone, looking for what? My qualification for writing this book is not that I am better than you, it's that I am worse.

Story
We live in a world obsessed with drinking. We drink at work events, lunches, book clubs and weddings. Yet no one ever questions alcohol's ubiquity. In fact, the only thing ever questions is why people don't drink. It is a qualifier for belonging. As a society, we are obsessed with health and wellness, yet we uphold alcohol as some sort of magic elixir. It is anything but. When Holly Whitaker started to look for a way to recover, the support systems she found for recovery where archaic and patriarchal.

Publisher's Summary
The Fastest Way to Stop Drinking... Imagine if tomorrow you wake up with no hangover, no regrets and feeling full of energy and vitality. Picture your bank account with thousands of extra dollars in it and imagine what life would be like if you had a limitless abundance of quality time with your family and loved ones? If you are drinking on a regular basis then alcohol is stealing all that from you everyday. My name is Craig Beck; I used to be just like you... My drinking was hopelessly out of control for nearly two decades. Nothing I tried made any difference, I attempted dry weeks and months but I always just ended up drinking even more than before. My doctor agreed it was time to cut down but he could offer no practical solution to help me to do so. I concluded that the only way I was going to escape the insidious trap of alcohol was to throw away all the ‘advice' I had been previously given and do the unthinkable. The result is, I not only cured my own drink problem but I have since helped over 50,000 fellow drinkers to also escape.
- No need to declare yourself an alcoholic.
- A permanent cure, not a lifetime struggle.
- No group meetings or expensive rehab.
- No humiliation, no pain and 100% no ‘willpower' required.
- No cravings, no medication and no silly gimmicks.
By the way… there are two very similar version of this book (only the title varies slightly). The fact you have found this one and not the other is a very good sign. Inside I will tell you why.

A friendly chat
After a long festive season, where at the end always finishes with my birthday, this year I turned 38. That's 20 years of solid drinking. TWENTY YEARS of damaging my body (maybe irreparably), 2-0 years of countless nights that I can't even remember, half a life time of hangovers and excuses. I've been feeling that enough is enough for a while, but working in an industry where drinking is life and being in a family where big nights are rife, I've longed for a silent and effective way out.
I downloaded this book because of 2 things, the title and the reviews. Craig never professes to be a guru, or the first guy to come up with the ideas; he just explains it as a normal person (like me, like you) in a way that makes sense.
I was on a looooong car trip and listened to this book in one go. The car trip was that long I even replayed a few chapters. When I did get to my destination I signed up to the website straight away. Loads of great content as well as the needed support you require when you make this positive choice.
If you need some friendly advice and don't feel as if you can approach one of your own friends, then Craig has your back!
If you got this far, thanks for reading, listen to this book, you will get something out of it, whether it be life changing or reassurance. I wish you the best of luck

FINALLY ....
... someone witty and intelligent tells us how to give up alcohol in a way other than 12 steps, higher powers, guilt and desperation!!! I have been waiting for this for decades, literally. I knew there had to be a way to deal with my functional "alcoholism" other than holding hands with strangers in a church basement. Craig Beck offers a unique approach by speaking to us with humor and respect. He shows us that the real culprit is alcohol itself -- and the culture that celebrates it. He speaks to the drinker as a strong person who unwittingly finds him/herself in a bad situation and wants to get out of it. No need to feel weak or guilty, no matter how many times you have tried to quit and failed. He explains exactly -- and convincingly -- why you should try again. And he offers a simple, logical and personal way to succeed. I gave up my wine before I even finished the book, and am looking forward to listening to the rest of his books. His writing/speaking style is casual, funny, articulate and motivating. Hellfire and damnation are definitely missing from his message. I wish EVERYONE would read this book, whether they want to stop drinking or not. His insights are valuable to all of us.

Awesome book
I had stopped drinking for two weeks before I bought this book. I was looking for a book that could explain how to continue sobriety, conquer cravings and help me to change my mindset about booze. I knew that willpower wouldn’t work, I knew that doing it for someone else wouldn’t work, I needed a mind shift. And I got it here in this book. Craig made me laugh and think deeply about my addiction. I got new information and confirmation of some things I already knew (either through horrible experience or other educative reading and therapy).
I feel freed.

classic bait and switch - beware
while the book is intriguing, it doesn't provide much info on how to stop drinking other than to stop, take some supplements and do some affirmations. THEN at the end he instructs you to go to his website to join his group to get started. I did and just found more sales pitch and an invitation to join for $600. classic bait and switch. beware....if you are wanting a book that provides the actual solution, this isn't it. not sure if his program works, I didn't subscribe.

This book stopped the merry go round...
VERY effective! This is not an AA or scare tactic approach, but a light hearted read/listen (giving me a few good chuckles) and at the same time Beck's shared experiences hit home with mine. He touches on the damage alcohol does and a sensible approach to making one think twice about drinking, why we drink and why we should stop. In the last chapters he offers a regiment of natural supplements which I followed and within a couple of days my mood has shifted. While it may have been because I was "ready" for real change after two years of over-drinking I haven't had the urge to have a drink in several days. You don't realize you've missed clarity until you're experiencing it.

Straightforward logic.
A refreshing, out-of-the-box delivery about the reality of alcohol. I'm a huge fan of giving people options to pursue recovery. Recovery isn't a cookie-cutter. Craig Beck delivers the ugly truth about alcohol, the "attractively packaged poison". No quick-fix gimmick. No bashing of any path of recovery.

Honest and fresh advice
I've read quite a few quit drinking alcohol books and listened to a fair few audios and I have to say that I found this one very refreshing, authentic and also practical. I really like Beck's non-judgemental attitude and his low pressure approach. He doesn't try to harangue you into stopping drinking but skilfully takes you on a compelling journey to your own decision. Whether or not it's stopped me drinking forever, I'll have to wait and see. I guess only I can do that. It certainly has taken me to a different place on my quest for a healthier life though. Thank you Craig. Highly recommended!

Listen twice
I was a binge drinker. Drinking between 10-15 pints Heineken per weekend session. Dying with a depressing hangover for days afterwards. I listened to this book and I was going to give it a 2 star review because I didn’t really get it. I went and bought another book that uses the willpower method to stop drinking. As I was listening to that book I kept getting called back to this book. It’s really very effective and made me realise what alcohol is. A disgusting poison that makes you ill and depressed. This book is Truth. Buy it, listen to it with an open mind, Twice or more if you need to, and look forward to a healthier and happier life.

does what it says!
Enjoyed this book, I related enough for it to have an impact on me to stop drinking !! . I definitely was a habitual wine drinker, open a bottle and I would finish it 5 out of 7 nights! Toyed with the idea of going teetotal since I turned 50 2 years ago for health and wellbeing reasons.
I stumbled across this on a search and the title drew me in. I don't enjoy the "Americanisms" much and I felt at times it was a little smug and irritating but it does have a broad reader base to cover.
Anyway it absolutely hit a nerve and it has genuinely not been remotely difficult to stop and stay stopped. its utterly bizarre but. it. just. works. Im 7 months in and look and feel so much better. if you think you want to stop and you know you drink more than you should, read this, It will change the way you view alcohol. for real. for good.
