Publisher's Summary

This book is about the discovery that the human brain has its own unique way of healing.

For centuries we believed that the price we paid for our brain's complexity was that, compared to other organs, it was fixed and unregenerative - unable to recover from damage or illness. In his revolutionary new book, Norman Doidge turns this belief on its head.

The phenomenon of neuroplasticity - the discovery that the brain can change its own structure and function in response to mental experience - is the most important change in our understanding of the brain and mind since the beginning of modern science.

Here,Doidge shows how the amazing process of neuroplastic healing really works. When it is understood, it is often possible to radically improve - and even cure - many conditions thought to be irreversible.

Doidge introduces us to the doctors, therapists, and patients who are healing the brain without surgery or medication. We meet patients who have alleviated years of chronic pain; children on the autistic spectrum or with ADD or learning disorders, who have used neuroplastic techniques to complete normal education and become independent; sufferers who have seen symptoms of multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, brain injuries and cerebral palsy radically diminish; and we learn how to lower our risk of dementia by 60 percent.

Through hopeful, astonishing stories, The Brain's Way of Healing explains how mind, brain, and body and the energies around us work together in health and healing.

Brilliant

An exciting insight into the future of healing. Amazing how everything old is new again. The human race appears to have an interesting way of having so many answers and closing their eyes to them. Thank you for sharing this knowledge.

Outstanding!

As a fan of Norman Doidge and his work, this book took the concepts introduced in the brain that changes itself to a whole new level. Simply remarkable.

Transformative

I bought this book initially as a hard copy - but I was too sore to sit still and read it. Listening to it has been fantastic. I've listened walking, riding cooking. It's given me hope for the future in managing chronic pain and kids neurological conditions. Fantastic.

awesome book 4 star, only reason im giving 4 star is because Normans first book to this 'the brain that changes itself' is even better - which i would give a 5 star! :)

Great insights into what the brain is capable of!

Fascinating listen! Plenty of great ideas and discoveries of the human brain discussed. Must listen for anyone that knows someone dealing with a neurodegenerative condition.

Incredible!

Loved it, makes me want to get some of the treatments in this book to optimise my brain, and also be a practitioner to help people heal as in the examples described

a book of hope

Brings feelings of not only hope, but hope that can be proven by science as being valid.

Old energy

This book was so old energy I couldn’t stand lietening to it. The stories were boring and truly uncomprehending, I would of liked a more complete expression of the brain, not segmented stories.

Very important book.

It took me a while to get through it, but very worthwhile. Some of the new modalities for remodeling or reinvigorating the brain function and brain body connection have been around for a long time. Thanks to this book they will become more available for the people who need them the most and hopefully will become more widespread that the medicate or institutionalize model.

really detailed

not as exciting as the first book because it is too detailed. I think it can be really important for some, so I think it is reasonable. I think it is the book that everybody should listen regardless having or not any illness. It can give you a gide how to live your life efficiently. I have to mention that is not the purpose of this book, but I learned so much I had to note this in my review.

A lovely continuation for TBTCI

Where does The Brain's Way of Healing rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Probably up there with the most facinating. It's probably very good to read as a stand alone book and having read 'the brain that changes itself' it makes for reaffirming what I thought I understood regarding the brain's way of changing. It's also a rather optimistic book that let me feel like I am more in control of my body than I realise.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There are a few case studies with touching endings so yes there were some tears.

Amazingly insightful as to how healing can occur

Every medical person or therapist should know this information so they can use it as an aid or starting point for helping children or adults with brain injury's or learning problems

Excellent book for audible

This is a long fascinating book and very suited for an audio book as there are long descriptions, and it’s sometimes a little slow moving. If I were reading it myself I would jump over these parts instead of listening to everything. I get a much better understanding by listening as I drive around the city doing my commute and daily chores.

Dissatisfied

It was longwinded & many stories were to long & not really about the healing you believe it to be .

A must read if you’re in the process of healing your brain

Very interesting and informative unfortunately the UK doesn’t seem to offer any of these treatments which is a shame as so many people would benefit not just myself.

Excellent

As a survivor of recent brain surgery currently in neuro rehab this has been both informative and an inspiration. I would thoroughly recommend it.

Clearly explained for the non medical

As an educator I have been enthralled to hear about the breakthroughs being discovered and how they can be applied to improve lives. I

This book and its predecessor explain in easily understandable ways the science as we currently understand it. I look forward to these approaches becoming more mainstream.
