Publisher's Summary

The past never stays buried for long....

Detective Chief Inspector Ryan believes he has put his turbulent history behind him. Then, in the early hours of the summer solstice, the skeleton of a young woman is found inside the Roman Wall at Sycamore Gap. She has lain undiscovered for 10 years, and it is Ryan's job to piece together her past.

Enquiry lines cross and merge as Ryan is forced to face his own demons and enter into a deadly game of cat and mouse with a killer who seems unstoppable. Murder and mystery are peppered with a sprinkling of romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit set amidst the spectacular scenery of Hadrian's Wall country in Northumberland.

A little frustrating

the story was wool read and exciting but the ending disappointing, almost as if it is not complete but merely an episode in a sequence frustrating as I am forced to read the next one to tie up loose ends.

Gripping yarn

Great plot and riveting performance from Jonathan Keeble as usual. Terrific characterisations and can't wait to listen to the sequel.

Just Keeps Drawing Me In

Do yourselves a favour and read/listen to this series. Each novel presents its own elegant mystery, while retaining a compelling thread of subplots that develop the characters and promise continued adventures.

The macabre of Inspector Morse, the team humour and camaraderie of Inspector Frost blended with the cozy stability of Midsomer Murders. Love this series, love this writer.

Well written, let down by unremitting dismay

The set pieces in the story are well-described and excellently performed, however the author’s smug delight in unremitting evil can grow tiresome, and in the end the manipulation just felt like sadism. We enjoyed the first novel Holy Island and bought Sycamore Gap soon after, but this one has turned us off the series entirely.

Boring

Any additional comments?

After listening to book 1 of this series, I found this book too similar and it quickly became very boring.
