Publisher's Summary

Introducing the new, unabridged version of The Infirmary by LJ Ross, the author of the international number one best-selling series, the DCI Ryan Mysteries.

There's a serial killer targeting the streets of Newcastle, seemingly picking his victims at random but subjecting them all to the same torturous end. When the chief inspector on the case goes missing, it falls on DCI Ryan to track down the man who is brutally murdering women and goading the police to 'catch me if you can'.

As everyone becomes a suspect, Ryan and his team get drawn further and further into the case, but for Ryan the nightmare gets closer to home than he could ever have imagined.

You can also listen to the multicast original drama starring Tom Bateman, Hermione Norris and Kevin Whately here.

The beginning explained ...

Loved going back to the beginning more fully. All the history had been referred to (kind of) but it was good to hear the whole story.

Horrible

Unnecessary glorification of a sick mind. Not worthy of you LJ Ross. You pushed it too far this time.

The hacker explained.

This really should be book 1. Not 11. However, still a great story apart from the getaway from the hospital. A bit silly to be able to get away. That aside. Enjoyed very much.

Read first

If you want to read the series from beginning to all books which I recommend I would also recommend you start with the infirmary which is a prequel to holy Island and I think you’ll enjoy a holy island and the rest of the books better..... that’s just my opinion

Finally, the Hacker is explained.

A stellar effort by LJ Ross. It fills in some of the backstory on Ryan.

Feel cheated.

When I started to listen to this book, I was very confused. Why oh why? After reading 10 books would you expect to get number 11 only to find it is a prequel of sorts. It is advertised as book 11. Yet we know what happens to all the characters.
Im not a happy bunny. Feel robbed of a book credit.
Advertise it at such and reorganise the book order!

A gruesome prequel.

A great introduction to Ryan and his team. Makes me want to read what comes next but unfortunately I already have!

The Infirmary by L J Ross

I thought this was the next book in the series. For anyone who has read none of the series, start with this book. I had heard them all and was a little perplexed at first. However it is a story that was crying out to be written. It was extremely well written, as usual, and set a gripping and fast pace.
Well done Louise.

Slightly disappointed

I purchased this as L J Ross book 11 but it’s actually book 0! Just took a while to understand what had happened to all the relationships in previous book! Would have liked to know this before I started listening.

Wrong Order

Great book as usual but it says its book 11 but it should be nearer the beginning like book 1 or 2.

This book does not make sense.

it should be the 1st book not the last in the series as you know what is going to happen in the end.. I couldn't finish it.

Breathtaking, heart stopping...

Having heard the whole DCI Ryan Series I was keen embark on this haunting prequel. I was not disappointed. The anticipation and adrenaline rushes seemed somehow more intense knowing what had to ultimately lead up to the killing of Ryan's sister. The listener lives through every moment with Ryan and experiences his every emotion along with him......couldn't put it down and was actually moved to tears at the end!

should be book 1 not book 11

I have to agree with the majority of reviews of this book that it should be book 1 in the DCI Ryan series and not book 11. Unfortunately, if you have followed the whole series (and who wouldn't - they are addictive) this book is a disappointment. It doesn't follow on from book 10 - we know all the characters and what has happened to them throughout the previous 10 volumes. Very annoying. Having said all that, it is a great story in it's own right. Very exciting (spoilt by the fact we know what happens at the end)
