Publisher's Summary

THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE WATER...

When the ancient waters of Lady’s Well in the rural village of Holystone begin to run red, it seems to be a nasty Hallowe’en prank and nothing more. But things take a sinister turn when the entire village suffers severe poisoning, and one old man turns up dead.

Accusations abound in the small close-knit community, and ‘old’ religions spar against ‘new’ while fear runs like wildfire through the streets. With so many potential motives and countless opportunities, there’s only one man who can help solve this particular mystery…

Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit, set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape.

Never guessed the killer till the very end

Once again LJ Ross has knocked it out of the park. Never stop writing this series. I laughed to myself so many times with the witty repartee from Frank and the next minute I cried with the heartfelt storyline.

not quite up to standard

Agree with the other reviews . Something felt a bit off with this one. I definitely enjoyed this less than the other. 19 books. Was happy noone was trying to kill the main characters and their families though. 🤣

Wonderful storyline!

This was a wonderful mystery and great storyline. Did not like the narrator taking on the child’s voice!! Must do better! Otherwise all the cockney and language was very good 👍🏼

This is more for the whole series than this book

Jonathan Keeble has brought the characters to life and injected the right amount of darkness or light as required throughout the series.

LJ Ross’s development of the characters has been lovely - both the intensity and humor as they get to know each other better. The villains are despicable and the hero’s often only kind of win….

This book in particular was lighter than most of the others - with the ending being a bit of a let down. Not bad, just not as much of an emotional rollercoaster.

All in all, I’ve pretty much binge listened to these. My only recommendation to to people living in the country who startle at bumps in the night: get a couple of big dogs (rotties are great with kids and even better with intruders). I used to say that if they bark in the middle of the night, there is someone there. And if they don’t, there is either no-one there or the dogs are dead so get your gun!

Always Time for a DCI Ryan Mystery

Enjoyable in its own right - just didn't quite feel the punch of the originals.

Somthing was missing

While this was still an enjoyable listen it just felt off compared to the normal standard of LJ Ross.

Brilliant

I wish this author would write and finish a book every week!
I can never wait till the next is out.
The narrative is always so good that the characters come alive for me .

Disappointing

Not L J Ross’ best book. Fortunately Johnathan Keeble kept the momentum and interest going with his excellent narration
