Publisher's Summary

With his duel fast approaching, Lindon is locked away in prison.

As a Blackflame, he is too dangerous to remain free. The Skysworn, protectors of the Empire, have imprisoned him to keep him under control until the day of his promised fight arrives.
When it does, he will face Jai Long.

But a new danger approaches the Empire, closer every day. One of the Dreadgods stirs, earlier than predicted, and even a brush with such a creature could be the end of the Blackflame Empire. Only the Skysworn stand between the people of the land and total annihilation.

And Lindon may be forced to join them.

Another excellent addition to the series

An excellent narrator.
A well written story.
Interesting plot points.

9/10 needs more suffering for Lindon.

No Progression

I wanted to like this story but you can't really call it that or even half a story. It's more of an hour long episode in a Netflix series. The characters are still flat and not going anywhere. They serve the story rather than the story serving them, making them inconsistent. I want to see what happens to Lindon and read about his homecoming but that's somewhere around 5 books away probably and this series isn't worth that investment of time or money. I certainly won't recommend it to anyone. Will Wight just isn't a very good author. He seems to be trying to drag this series out but he doesn't have the skill for it. At least he isn't still trying to narrate his own books anymore. The voice actor in this was very good.

Good, but tastes like half a book.

I’m always wary of fantasy titles with run times shorter than 9 hours, but sometimes you get a great book in spite of the short length. This author managed to pull it off at least once in this very series.

However this one just felt like 2/3s of a book, with an attempt at tying the story together with a big reveal at the end. It’s the kind of book where you have to wonder if the author or publisher is just trying to make an extra buck by splitting a few long novels into a much more profitable, six-book-plus series.

This was a good continuation in the story but by no means a self-contained “chapter” in the overall story, unlike a couple of the other books in this series were.

So summing up; I recommend this book to anyone hooked on the tale and its’ characters, but it kinda felt like I paid a credit just to have the plot points filled so I’d know what’s going on in the next book.

too short

all of these books, while good, are too short. they don't feel like complete books.

The Battles, The Set up!

This book is all about the transitions. The previous loose ends are finished up, and a bunch of new adventures and lore will begin. It's a setup, of the next few books and adventures. It's the weakest so far, but don't take that as it's not good. its great! And required to keep it for a long series, but normally it could be done between 2 longer books from the last one and the next one. Beating up about the small books has been done on other reviews, and nothing to add there except its true. The battles and details are great, performance is great, so just sit back and enjoy it. If you look hard enough, you can try and find something you you don't like involving the plot or character motivations, but why? Overall, I liked where it goes, and where it is going. Great book.

let Travis and Will Wight whisk you away!

Wei Shi Lindon continues to follow the dangerous and forbidden path (forbidden because the path he walks always leads to insanity and destruction) of the Blackflame Warrior! People distrust him because of his warrior image, so when Lindon would join the Skysworn and fight alongside them, all they see is a monster...but Lindon with his unique, "pure" twin souls, has found a way to negate the debilitating effects caused by using Blackflame magic
Undaunted, Lindon fights alongside his best friend Yerin, and as always, their Patron Underlord, Eithan, keeps egging both of them to do the impossible and fight against the Deadbeasts!
I would definitaly recommend this fantastic series to lovers of classic fantasy, and even fans who love anime/manga will find plenty of visual cues to savor in Will Wight's action-packed stories... So let Travis Baldree, and Will Wight whisk you away!

Weaker than the others

Didn’t seem to move the story forward as much as the other books. Felt thin.

excellent but too short

What was there was great, but it was far too short, ending suddenly and surprisingly. It feels more like an episode than a story in its own right.

Love this series. I can’t believe it’s included

This of fantasy writing at its best. To fathom the imagination of Mr. Wight is mind boggling. It’s a must read for anyone who loves this genre.

Great series of books!

Great performance by reader, he really has an accent for each person & it's perfect. These books are so enthralling I am hooked! Love the 3ain characters, Lindon, Aithan & Yerrin, the comedic moments between the 3 of them give a nice light note to the sometimes serious action! can't wait to start next book

All that build up for nothing.

Book 4 and still the main character is a waste of oxygen. The writer tries to make the main character seem hungry with curiosity that gives way to rare insights with unique views to show intelligence, but it just doesn't work. He "struggles" and "overthinks", and "fights" -- yet never to any result. AT ALL. Growth is what the writer is trying to portray, but it's a true bore. Instead of building up a tense atmosphere, you end up getting annoyed because you know the outcome. It's always the same. ALWAYS. With the writing style so predictable, you end up speeding up the narration often just to get it over with and get through the remaining story.

This is by far, the worst in the series so far. With all the build-up, I was genuinely expecting something impressive. If not for the previous books and the other character depths, I would have dropped this midway before its end. I didn't however and can't say if ever improved.

a great sequel

Love this series. Will Wight is now a firm favourite author of mine along with Brandon Sanderson. Great characterisation in the reading. A gripping story and fantastic twists.

Feels like the story is just starting

After the previous two books I had.my doubts about the series but it's back on! I am glad to see the direction the story is taking. The characters are growing on me more and more. Even the ones I didn't really like at the beginning. The narrator does an amazing job! Looking forward to the next one!
