Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Publisher's Summary
The greatest conflict the galaxy has ever known....
They were the Savages. Raiders from our distant past. Elites who left Earth to create tailor-made utopias aboard the massive lighthuggers that crawled through the darkness between the stars. But the people they left behind on a dying planet didn't perish in the dystopian nightmare the Savages had themselves created: they thrived, discovering faster-than-light technology and using it to colonize the galaxy ahead of the Savages, forming fantastic new civilizations that surpassed the wildest dreams of Old Earth.
Until the Savages came in from the Darkness....
When a Savage hulk lands on glittering New Vega, one of the crown jewels of the post-Earth galaxy, a coalition of planetary governments amasses their forces to respond to the post-human Savage Marines who've come to sack and enslave. But what the coalition forces find is something far more sinister than the typical Savage hit-and-run: this time, the Savages have come to stay.
Witness the intense beginning of The Savage Wars, the epic conflict, built into the lore of Galaxy's Edge, that will encompass over a thousand years of brutal fighting. Only the greatest military force in the galaxy can bring this war to an end...and the galaxy will never again be the same.
Experience the beginning of the Legion. Experience the Savage Wars.
Featuring an unforgettable performance by Stephen Lang (Avatar, Gods & Generals), Jason Anspach and Nick Cole explore the thrilling, desperate, and brutal war that forever shapes the galaxy....

I think it's good...I think
It's a cool story, but I'm not sure about having Stephen Lang narrate this quintessential prequel to the Galaxy's Edge universe. Lang is not a bad speaker (Well, he's certainly very talented) - the problem is that his style doesn't work for Galaxy's Edge, especially after R.C. Bray's brilliant job in the first season. When in a pitched battle between bombs dropping, a stressed soldier speaks like Christopher Walken, or in a heated argument the two impassioned officers converse like Sam Elliot, it's not as immersive. But still a cool story and (oncevyoi get used to Lang's style) a good audio book.

Enter the savages
Prepare to be hooked, the characters the story the emotions! That was a hell of a ride and I already can’t wait to dive into the next book!
Stephen Lang adds a great raspy soldiers tone to the voice of the military characters
For me some parts of the book brought back memories of playing the first halo game except that now I’d be screaming KTF

Slow Start but stayed true
The beginning of the book was very hard reading, I saw little cohesion and the storyline was all over the place. Not to mention slow. Full of names I didn't recognize. Until the usual hero ditched the facade, then it hot interesting and the book payed off

My 100 acre wood
A Galaxy's Edge book, yet again, pauses everything else in my life on release date, including sleep and allows a brief escape to my 100 acre wood. Savage Wars is a perfect stand alone introduction to the GE universe or a welcome home to old friends. There is notably, a discernible improvement in audio quality on this recording for some reason and Lang nails the performance. I hope this continues.
Cole and Anspach smash it out of the park .... again! ... more please - SOON - don't spare the horses !

This book for me is the best in the whole series, you get to feel right in the thick of it. The scale is epic and I want more books to come from time period.

I really enjoy the galaxy edge series unfortunately the narration is simply not RC Bray and it is real hard to listen to - had to return the book bit of a shame

Excellent story but poor performance.
For anyone who’s read Galaxy’s edge this is just what you’re used to. Action, colour and intrigue.
The narrator is good at what he does but the performance seems to be put together from two separate reads that vary greatly in quality. The switch between them is jarring when it happens and sometimes that is often. Disappointing.
This book is unlikely to hook a new comer to the franchise, but is a good read for those into Galaxy’s edge.
