Joe has been moving deeper into his study of ritual magic and further away from his combat team. He's learning more and more, but more often than not needs to choose between his research and squad leadership. Improving the town is a huge help to the guild, and they have been pushing to increase their power.

Their rapid increases have not gone unnoticed. The guild receives an ultimatum, delivered by assassins and signed with blood. If they continue to accrue power and fame, each and every person with a grievance against the guild will come to smash the town back to square one.

With tensions coming to a head, all Joe wants to do is leave it all behind and reach the next area. He flatly refuses the guild when they ask him to devise lethal options to use against the gathering army, but when the time comes...even Joe is unsure if he'll step into the limelight and show everyone exactly how ruthless he can be.

I’ve never listened to a gamer type of book before. Takes some time to get used to it but this story has been a lot of fun. I’m glad the first was free or I would never have bought the rest. Hope you enjoy it as much as me.

With an exciting story full of progression, humour, and action, coupled with the incredible narration of Luke Daniels, Ruthless cements itself as the strongest entry in the series to this point. I don't know how I am going to wait for the next one.

Really thought it’s just follow the usual hero saves the day at the last minute but took some very interesting twist that made sense but also didn’t hinder the progression of Jo . Specially with the verdict the king gave . Can’t wait to read the next book

after the 4th book I was concerned the quality might be dropping or the magic of it all fading, but I'm glad to say that this one is the best one yet and changed my mind. the pacing is better, the rest a few moments that will have you laughing out loud, and a few well set up puns and jokes for good measure. if you've come this far definitely continue, I'm curious to see where this goes in the future
