Publisher's Summary

This book includes correspondence (and context for understanding it) from Mother Teresa's early years in religious life and throughout her years as founder of a new religious community. This correspondence reveals Mother Teresa's struggles, doubts, and her sense of abandonment by God. These revelations can encourage and strengthen us as she reveals her abiding faith despite darkness and trials.

Missionary of Charity Father Brian Kolodiejchuk met Mother Teresa in 1977 and joined the Missionaries of Charity Fathers at the time of their foundation in 1984. He is postulator of the Cause of Beatification and Canonization of Mother Teresa of Calcutta and director of the Mother Teresa Center.

Critic Reviews

"Mother Teresa's ministry with the poor won her the Nobel Prize and the admiration of a believing world. Her ministry to a doubting modern world may have just begun." (James Martin, S.J., Culture Editor, America magazine)
"Mother Teresa, sick with longing for a sense of the divine, kept faith with the sick of Calcutta. And now, dead for [over] 10 years, she is poised to reach those who can at last recognize, in her, something of their own doubting, conflicted selves." ( The New York Times)
"Saints are not holy for themselves, but for all of us, their sisters and brothers. I believe this book will become a classic in spirituality." (James Van Vurst, O.F.M., St. Anthony Messenger magazine)

Beautiful!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This was a beautiful look inside this Godly woman, who was anything but ordinary. She wanted no credit or glory, simply to serve the poorest of the poor.It went through her life and inner thoughts from youth through her life.Inspirational and encouraging to find the light within us all. Even in the darkest nights of her soul, she radiated love and light. She needed no money to feed and bless multitudes.Truly an Ascended Master!

Amazing book, narration didn't feel right

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it is beautiful.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The woman voicing Mother Teresa didn't really seem to capture her personality. Mother, at least according to times I have seen her talk and based upon peoples' descriptions of her, was a determined, focused, and almost spunky woman. The narrator in the audiobook had a breathy, sterile delivery that seemed almost stereotypical, like the porcelain statue of a saint.

A narrater can kill a good book

Would you try another book from Brian Kolodiejchuk and/or the narrators?

The male narrators are ok it is the female narrator that makes Mother Theresa sound sickly sweet, and since this is mainly about Mother Theresa's writings, for me it was a major turn off

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Yes the book was good- the female narrator not so!

Such a different life than my own, yet still life-changing for me

At many times throughout this book I kept feeling as if I could not relate to the level of adoration, dedication, humbleness, and obsession that Mother Teresa had for her faith and for Jesus. Yet I found it fascinating nonetheless and was able to apply what I learned from Mother Teresa’s words to my own actions and behaviors in everyday life and in my faith. As a self-proclaimed introvert, since “listening” to this book, I have felt myself desiring to connect more with people both who I know and love, and whom I know nothing about. To smile at them, to bring light to the darkness. There is much to learn from Mother Teresa, even if we have chosen a life that does not resemble her path. A great read for many, even the novice in faith, which I believe myself to be. Of a different note, I found the letters between spiritual leaders to be an interesting insight into the inner workings and hierarchy of the Church. I found the narration to be fine!

An inspiring look into someone who we knew for having done so much good yet we knew so little about the price she paid.

What a wonderful life!

Her life, her story, her motives are so inspiring. We all know about her, but we don't really know her motives, why and how she did what she did. It is a beautiful story, very well told and is a privilege to have been immersed in her life for a while. I recommend this book to all who believe in service, to all who believe in God and his ways of doing things. He struggles made me realize mine have purposes too. What a great book!.

She truly is a Saint. This book is inspirational

I love this book and I have listened to it more than once. Her example of love and service is likened unto Christ Jesus. I pray I may now care deeply for the "least of these".

"must-read" for all who care about spiritual life

Difficult to transmit the insight of this testimony of Mother Teresa. Most profound testament. She let herself to be a "victim" to the end. And even the fact that her personal letters remained for us all was against her human wishes. Thus she underwent a profound violence in human sense in many ways. I am immensely grateful to God for this.

True Mother to us all

Where does Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was highly enjoyable and spiritually deep book - even if not a religious person

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mother Teresa

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

Multiple voices made it easy to navigate through different people mentioned in the book and the voice of Mother Teresa did well fit her stature

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

yes - she was a Nobel laureate, who did so much, unlike some other recent laureates - who killed other people instead of helping anyone
