There are two schools of thought for encouraging babies to sleep through the night: the hotly debated Ferber technique of letting the baby "cry it out", or the grin-and-bear-it solution of getting up from dusk to dawn as often as necessary. If you don't believe in letting your baby cry it out, but desperately want to sleep, there is now a third option, presented in Elizabeth Pantley's sanity-saving audiobook The No-Cry Sleep Solution.

You have a newborn, so sleep is impossible, right? Wrong! In the womb, babies sleep up to 20 hours per day. Clearly newborns don't need to be "trained" how to sleep-they know how, and they've had plenty of practice. So why do most parents have trouble getting their newborns to sleep? Elizabeth Pantley, a world-renowned expert on children's sleep, created this guide to explain the ways we unintentionally prevent an infant's natural sleep to occur, and to teach us the simple but powerful ways to maximize our newborn's naps and nighttime sleep.

Good for insomnia and labour
I listened to this in my last trimester. I found it extremely soothing to listen to and the narrator's voice is perfect.
I found the hypno exercises really great for helping me fall back to sleep when I had 3rd trimester insomnia.
As for my birth, it all happened so quickly, I didn't get to listen to the tracks as planned. But I did try to remember the coping strategies as best as I could during labour. Who knows if giving birth was improved from this audio book or not; but overall I had a positive, fast, first time labour without any complications. So no complaints from mum and bub.

Loved it!
Now that I have finished the book, I feel more knowledgeable and educated about labor and child birth. Having more knowledge than I did before has made me feel more confident and prepared to birth my baby naturally. I have been able to acknowledge and fears and concerns I may have had before, and was able to let them go. So glad I bought, and even more happy that I got the audible version so that it plays the tracks for me during and after the chapters.

Recommend for all
Very thorough. Provides relevant information for both first time hypnobirthers as well as those that have experienced birth with or without hypnobirthing. Nice review of physiologic phases of labor and delivery. Provides support for how to approach decisions related to complications that arise before or during labor. My only criticism is that the audio version does not label the chapters or tracks by name only by chapter number.

Difficult to follow
I thought an audiobook would be best for this type of practice however in this format I'm finding it difficult to follow. There is no accompanying document to set out which chapter contain which exercises, and no introduction title to the additional material. I've not yet been able to find the tracks for the three main techniques that the author recommends are practiced three times a week! There are a lot of chapters but the content of these could be put more succinctly, after all the only way to 'achieve' mindfulness is by practice...which I can't do with the audiobook as I can't find the relevant tracks!

Fantastic content and a lovely soothing voice to relax to. The reading is perfect, so natural and flows so well. I have learned a lot from this book and am excited to give the hypnobirthing method a go in my upcomming birth... any day now. Thank you for this lovely experience, I think I have listened to this book about 20 times or more as a whole and parts of it even more often.
