Publisher's Summary

Daily lessons and meditations on how to detach from other people's expectations and discover a life of balance and freedom.

Do you ever feel like you give other people too much power over what you think and feel? Does how your mate or child or employer treat you make or break your day? Do you find yourself feeling immobilized by other people's expectations and demands? These are the classic indicators of codependence. And the only solution to codependence is detachment. This seeming paradox-embracing (bringing near you) detachment (separation) - holds the key to your inner peace and that of those around you.

Through 200 meditations, Karen Casey teaches you how to let go of the illusion that you can control anyone or anything beyond yourself. You'll learn how to find your own balance point and how to get to it whenever you find yourself tempted to become enmeshed in other people's problems or to rescue them.

Helpful especially for individuals dealing with addiction and codependency behaviour

The principles in this book can be very helpful to individuals who are in the midst of an emotional turmoil, especially if living with someone who is an addict or recovering addict. We all know the chaos this situation can cause. The principles can also be used in other situations, in everyday dealings with difficult family members or stressful situations, or any situation where letting go is necessary in order to get your sanity and peace back.
For people who don’t believe in God, this book does ask you to trust in a higher power as a means of letting go of tendencies to control your life and other people. This is very hard to achieve without the help of a higher power. That’s why Al Anon and groups like that, implement this crucial step. For Christians who already believe in God, just remember that Casey’s god may not be the same as Jesus. Things that you may relate to is God’s will being perfect and loving at all times.
Just a reminder that this book is based on the principles of Al Anon after all. If you listen to this book when distressed, it can help you to think clearly and objectively before acting out. It’s a great tool to help you overcome codependent behaviour.
