Publisher's Summary

It was just one fight, but it changed Kaiden Jericho's life forever.

He was in a gang but was trying to change his future, when a board member of the elite advanced academy NEXUS made a snap decision and offered him a chance.

Then fate, or an unbalanced genius, offered him another.

The Nexus Academy is for the elite trainees from Earth, and now trials from our alien allies, as they teach the future generation how to fight, lead, hack, spy, and many other talents and tactics.

Hired by companies, governments, and NGOs, these graduates work to pay off the massive debt their training at the academy accumulates.

You don't become the best of the best by staying alive. With the Animus, you are closer to perfection with each death you suffer.

Kaiden Jericho would rather skip the death part, thank you very much.

A good read.

loved it , I think there is lots of room for character development and plots. kind wish I new more about a main plot but with the wise cracking main character and developing story line I'm looking forward to book 2.

pretty great

Honestly, the only complaint about this fic that I have is that the protagonist is a little too annoying. He's arrogant and constantly cracking wise, which is kinda okay, but it gets to the point where he's cracking wise with every sentence and you just want him to stfu.

Everything in moderation. It makes him come off as two dimensional if that's his only setting. I'm hoping the author tones the sass down, I'd love him to show more of his Southern Charm.

Finally, this isn't really a litRPG. Some of the elements are there and teased, but not in this book. It's a scifi military/science academy with some kind of VR training room. It's unclear is said training device will have any real world applications, but it's only been teased so far.

A Tech Harry Potter but sooooo much better.

I have been an audible listener for about five year, and this book is in the top five series I have found. It is a good blend of video games and real life without the normal downsides. For those who like a longer series it has the significant ways to grow as well as a good bit of foreshadowing. Thank you to the authors for a great book. Hope to see more of them sooner rather than later. (The stranger tips his hat and strolls away)

Fun book

This was what I love most about a great audiobook. It has great narration, good story, interesting characters and awesome dialogue.

The narrator did a great job giving each character and individual voice and bringing the dialogue to life.

The writers crafted a unique LitRPG story that wasn’t over the top with the RPG elements. Some of these get big down in them to the point you either zone out or skip a head in the audiobook formats.

Do you like action and have a good sense of humor

Yes,

I was looking for a new book, listen to mostly Lit Rpg books. I currently have over 100 audblebooks. I have listen to great and bad books. Finding a new series is sometimes hard. But was I can as is out of all the books I have listened to this book is now in my top 3, first is "Red Rising" second "dungeon born" and then now this book "Initiate".

I originally was only going to give the book 30 mins to see how it was and check out the voice actor. I was currently in another book series and wasnt planing listening to this book until after I finished the other one. But after 30 mins I couldn't stop. Listening. I listened to it for the next 6 hours stright. (who needs sleep) then the next day saddly finish the first book. I look. Forward to the second book that comes out on audiobooks on 7/7/19

Book has lots of actions and made me bust out laughing muilple times.

An amazing start!!!

Listened to the whole thing in one day. Just couldn't stop and now I'm desperately waiting for the next book in the series. If you're a fan of the kurtherian series I'm sure you will love this one also. High energy and great character development and the narrator did an amazing job.

Good start to this series.

I seldomly review as I just want to support the series so there is that up front. I have only gotten into litrpgs in the last year but god do I love them. I love military sci-fi as well and have fairly looked to a mix of these two. So far only through the first but this seems to scratch that itch. No space battles so far but I'm excited to see where these go. I'm not great at this review stuff but if you like litrpgs and more ground based military sci-fi the for sure check this series out.

I really enjoyed this book and look foreward to th

I have to say I like the creativity of the world with the litrpg like system. The character starts out with a bit of an OP kind of feel to him but here is to hoping that we don't get another series that the main character grows in power unchecked until the author drops the series all togeather because he doesn't have a direction to take it anymore...Alterworld. Seriously though it is too soon for that talk though. Another aspect of this book I like is the multiple layers of personality we have with our main character. He's more then a sharp shooting, wise cracking, BA true Texan. I have to also praise the performance here it was masterful. The accents and voices we get are top notch so take a bow Scott Aiello.

Boring and childish

Slow, predictable, and boring. The Texas accent thing gets old rapidly. The characters are two-dimensional and you need a microscope to find the plot. There is no pace and I struggled to maintain interest. It took a certain amount of determination to finish book and I think I should have given up and moved on, instead.
