Hunt the mesmer. Free the captives. Be the hero you never wanted to be. It's been 10 days since Jade finally got out. Out of the bed she spent her life trapped in, out of the hospital, and now out of the city, the walls, and way outside of her comfort zone. The wilderness is a terrifying place, especially when you're hunting mesmer...and everything else is hunting you. Unfortunately, getting out of the forest won't get her out of the woods. She’ll need to navigate court politics and foreign policy if she wants to come out in one piece.
Publisher's Summary
Kaiden Jericho's life has been about rocking it like a solo artist, now he has to deal with a partner.
Who is he going to work with, and will that partner be able to handle him...including his (shall we say) slightly inflated ego of himself? Even if that ego is deserved, just a little?
Chief is learning to be a little more supportive, except when Chief of Security Wulfson decides a few students deserve a little more intense training.
With all of the additional injuries Kaiden suffers in his extra-curricular training, will he succumb to the blue goop pain killer?
You don't become the best of the best by staying alive. With the Animus, you are closer to perfection with each death you suffer.
For Kaiden Jericho, he'd rather skip the death part, thank-you-very-much.
Includes special note from co-author Michael Anderle.

Book 2 not as good
I really enjoyed book 1, Kaiden's E.I. really made the story more enjoyable for me, the narrator, Scott Aiello, does a fantastic job. In book 2 the story slows down and starts to drag on, assigning points to his character really turned this book into another litrpg. That is when I realized it was going to be.."just another boy outcast in school getting into a full immersion type of game. I do not believe I would make it through another book.

Superficial, poor plot
The characters are just stupid and superficial, the first book was decent this one is just awful. The dim witted conversations between the characters is tedious. I couldn’t finish the book and I’m now done with the series as a result.

Eish, I should have considered this before buying.
I think Josh and Mike have done a great job of segmenting the story into game levels which, in concept works well, however I was a little under-awed by this book. I think that the threads of the story can go in so many directions such as the "Real world problems" with inter-galactical relations, school politics, character relationships etc but it sticks steadfast to the yearly progress...I must admit to getting a little bored. The standout for me is the main characters AI - snarky, funny and I cant help picturing an old, grumpy cowboy.... As I travel quite a bit I would probably come back to the series for "between airports" listen.

Could not finish
I wasted a credit. Shallow development. Had potential, but I did my best to finish, but just could not make myself waste any more time. Needs a lot more editing. Less redundancy and predictable plot. No real story line progress, at this rate the main character is still going to be in the academy doing the same things by book 12. Books 1 and 2 should have been 1 book and fleshed out better.

Great sequel to the series
Training continues and our heroes are starting to feel the effects of whatever plot is being hatched around them. This is a really good follow up to the first book, my only thoughts were it needs a bit more world building so that you can grasp why the school exists and the role that the state of politics and corporate interactions will be playing in the development of the story line. I am looking forward to the next installment.

Really funny characters. Very funny one liners and a fun plot. Supper funny voices and delivery. And I have seen a lot of really funny stuff in real life as a non-gamer, mother of 3, and special education teacher. This book and its companions is a great chill out read.

sneered?
towards the last half/quarter of the book, the author started using the same handful of Tom Swift-esq dialogues, the most annoying being sneered. friendly banter between friends in book uses strange verbs that either don't fit or are used so rarely in most writing that it took me out of the story. because of this, it made it somewhat unenjoyable to finish.
